This Week @ Riverside
Home of the Rams!
Hello Riverside,
Tomorrow our first steps into online instruction are going to take place. As with any new endeavor there will be things that work great and things that do not work so great. Please be patient with us as we dive into this new world.
I'm trying not to overwhelm you with too much info as we move forward. Below is my best attempt to give you the bare bones of what is happening.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grading for Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 is still be decided upon.
LCPS has decided to pause discussion and action related to bringing closure to the third quarter at this time. Teachers are not to engage students in discussion about missing work or assessments from the third quarter. LCPS will release direction on how to manage the third quarter as soon as possible. This means that there is no posting of grades/graded assignments for third quarter work at this time. This includes work that was collected or administered prior to the closure of schools on Thursday, March 12. (As of Friday, March 20)

RVHS Continuity of Education
Thank you so much for your positive outlook and patience as we navigate these strange times. There is much uncertainty with what is happening with our schools, but progress is slowly being made.
One thing is for certain, the staff of Riverside High School are organizing continuing education learning materials for their students that will be delivered via Google Classroom beginning on March 30, 2020--B Day (periods 5-6-7-8). Here are some need to know items:
If your teacher was already using Google Classroom, the students can find the materials there starting on Monday.
My teacher wasn't using Google Classroom? Well, they have created one now. Teachers will be adding students to their classrooms manually, but our students will also receive an email from each teacher with the classroom code for their class.
What if your student doesn’t see a Google Classroom for each of their classes on Monday morning ? Please check the student’s LCPS g-mail account for the code information.
Finally, if you need help getting to the right place CLICK HERE please see the email accompanying this call. For help with other LCPS technology at home visit, OUR STUDENT HELP SITE. Email your teacher or Mrs. Burrus (Jessica.burrus@lcps.org), our IFT, if you have questions or have trouble.
On another note, much of our information is going out through email using the same format I use for our traditional Sunday newsletter. If you are not receiving these email communications, please go to ParentVue and update your information-under My Account tab.
More information on these learning experiences can be found in my old newsletters that are conveniently posted on our website https://www.lcps.org/riverside click on the This Week @ Riverside Icon.
Thank you and miss you up here at the schoolhouse

Guidelines for RVHS Continuity of Education: Beginning Monday, March 30th, 2020-B Day
1. Students will be provided an online educational opportunity (using Google Classroom) that can be accomplished in a ½ hour for each class you take.
a. These opportunities are to be review, no new material can be presented.
b. These opportunities are not mandatory, but highly encouraged.
c. These opportunities are not graded.
*Dual Enrollment Classes (Northern VA Community College) can begin new instruction and grading.
2. Students should see a posted online educational opportunity on each day (A or B) that they would have the class normally.
Here is a link to the A/B calendar beginning March 23 going through April 10:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QCI2JQnxrIyU-8AbINdhVpxmaz88QVMtvCYPp6gtKqA/edit?usp=sharing
This means that a student may have up to four (4) educational opportunities a day that will take no longer than two (2) hours to complete. (DE and AP may be different)
3. Teachers will be checking email at regular intervals throughout the day (M-F).
*Of course, things may change, so…FLEXIBILITY is the key. We will be in touch as things go.
