Why? To demonstrate redefinition of SAMR and teach others.
How? Through teacher PD and student learning
What? Creating an iMovie using a Six Word Story and Storyboard
Fourth grade students created a short film using the basis of the iBook which I learned about during the Vanguard PD called, One Best Thing: Six Word Story, Six Unique Shots. These were the steps that they followed:
- Students worked on a book report biography and were presented with making a thirty second video with six camera angles and six words. This made the students think visually on how to present information in few words.
- The students learned about camera angles and what they represented (example: a low angle gives power to object on screen).
- The students made a storyboard for each shot and chose a director and actors.
- Once they shot all their scenes using the iPad camera they uploaded their videos to iMovie.
- Using iMovie, students assembled their shots in order, edited length, used transitions, added text, added sound effects and added music.
- After all their edits were completed student used AirDrop to share with their teachers and fellow classmates.

What: Grade 3 students explain how they made their own SMORE account in order to organize the research for their assignment. After a field trip and learning about the community, students used notes to outline and summarize, researched using selected sites, imported appropriate videos and photos to support their research and presented to their colleagues.
How: Not only did the students present using Airplay, but a bulletin board shows the front page of each SMORE for parents to see and the students can teach others how the SMORE organizes projects.

Why: To demonstrate student work and teach others how to create a keynote presentation.
What: Keynote presentation: add slides, insert pictures and animations
How: Created a video to show others.
First grade students chose a president to research. They used Google search to search different facts about their president. The students took what they learned and created a Keynote presentation to share to the class. As the students were creating their presentations, they learned how to insert new slides, pictures, and animations.

Lesson: Using Loops in Garage Band to mix an original music composition
Purpose: Music composition will be used as background music to accompany student created I-Movies.
SAMR: Redefinition
Steps:
1. Play one of the pre-recorded pieces available in the Themes of I-Movie. Discuss some of the elements of the music. Let students know that they will be using some of these elements: melody, beat, percussion, variety of instruments etc. to create their own compositions to import into movies they have already filmed.
2. Demonstrate process for creating a new song using Sound Loops. Students can follow along on their own iPads and practice the skills as these are demonstrated.
3. Discuss how music can enhance a documentary film. Are there ways that the music can be distracting rather than adding texture and meaning to the film?
4. Goal: create and record a composition that you have designed. Record your composition. Export into your i-movie. Review your movie to make sure the sound volume enhances the movie - does not distract.

What: The video is a chapter summary from the class book the fourth graders are reading
Why: to complete curriculum requirements, expand their knowledge, reflect and collaborate
How:
- Students were given the choice of utilizing Keynote, notes, or pages to create a summary of the chapter
- Students collaborated and completed their summaries
- Finally, the student in the video chose to create a project using the Pages app

WHAT?
The assignment was a How to…….lesson on a particular STEAM component. In this case, Sophia chose science and art. She created a PowerPoint to explain the steps needed to make a catapult. In addition, she made a movie with recorded clips of the lesson and presented to her classmates.
WHY?
- To facilitate instruction and steps needed to complete a catapult.
- To incorporate photos and video into a PowerPoint to make learning more personal and helpful during a presentation.
How?
Sophia had to create a PowerPoint presentation and record the actual presentation.. Then she had to edit and summarize the clips into a helpful video others can utilize to make their very own catapult. All of the students enjoyed watching her video and considered new ways to make presentations in the future.
Vanguard Janet (who has 1 iPad for use) utilized her teacher iPad for the VoiceThread and a Lenovo laptop to create the Moviemaker video, Voicethread and MovieMaker
