Colonial Rule in Southeast Asia
by Amanda Blatz
Why America Should Colonize in Philippines
Imperialism allows countries to grow and become stronger economically. The U.S. is one of the strongest countries. Some believe direct rule will be the most beneficial others believe indirect rule will be best. Direct rule would mean completely removing the current political leaders and replacing them with our own, indirect rule would allow the existing rulers to maintain power. The Philippines would benefit from imperialism because of protectorate because we would protect them. We will only benefit by expanding our regions. We will be able to access more goods and sell more goods as well. Plus, we even have a new spot to house military and navy docks. We are continuing to change, in order for us to stay the same we have to become larger and stronger like humans evolve our countries need to evolve.
Commodore George Dewey
Commodore George Dewey is a great American citizen. He loves his country and wants the best for it. Dewey, the Naval commander, is on the verge too much success in the Philippines. He defeated a Spanish Fleet in Manila Bay for control of the right to colonize.
Emilio Aguinaldo
Emilio has been nothing but trouble. The U.S. colonizing the Philippines will only benefit them. He is the "leader" of independence movements, but by us being there, we will be creating new opportunities and jobs. We are even offering them protection.
King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn
King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn are rulers from Thailand. They have been able to keep Thailand from being captured, but by doing this, they are harming their citizens. By us colonizing we are only benefiting them. Even though they have not allowed their land to be colonized they have brought in western learning styles. They want to become like Western powers, so they want us to help them and become even better.
Our Main Goal
By colonizing in the Philippines, we will be expanding our trading grounds. We will also have to expand our relations with other countries. We will even have more and new materials to produce products with.
