heinze spotlight on frame
The Oct 12 Shirley Heinze Fall bus tour highlighted the conservation work that is underway along the east branch of the Little Calumet River in LaPorte and Porter Counties and its tributaries. The tour visited a number of properties permanently protected by Shirley Heinze Land Trust, as well as county, town, national park, and other nonprofit-owned properties that are being restored along the river.
The bus departed from the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center (1215 IN-49, Porter, IN) at 8am. It made stops at Red Mill County Park, Frame Little Calumet Conservation Area, Dale B. Engquist Nature Preserve, Wykes-Plampin Nature Preserve, Keith Richard Walner Nature Preserve, Hawthorne Park, Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve and the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk.
PCC appreciated the invitation to show our prize property to the group. Jim, Gary, Don and Bill were on hand to welcome guests and tell them about our part of the river.
