You Say Eagle...I Say Trek...
It is that time of year for Evansdale's largest fundraiser - Eagle Trek! Eagle Trek is a Walk-a-thon that raises money for both PTA and Evansdale Foundation. Because the event is volunteer driven, the costs are low, allowing 90% of the money raised by participants(students) to remain at the school. The funds raised are used to provide teacher training, classroom resources, enrichment programs & materials, events and programs, additional staffing not provided by DCSD, and more. Needless to say, this event is very important for the Evansdale community. Our goal is to raise at least $55,000 this year.
A very enthusiastic student body gathered in the gym Thursday morning for a fun-filled kick-off assembly. Everyone left the pep rally ready to raise money and walk for Evansdale. Detailed event information will be sent home in couriers today. The "Get Started" brochure contains instructions on how each student can set up his/her own fundraising web page and email donation requests to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. All Eagle Trek donations are tax-deductible.
September 28th is Walk-a-Thon Day. All students will walk around the lower field track for 30 minutes during their PE period that day. A mark will be placed on the back of each student's Eagle Trek shirt for every lap walked. Fun fact - 6 laps = 1 mile.

DCSD and DeKalb County Library Want Every Student to Apply for a Library Card this Fall
DeKalb County Public Library and the DeKalb County School District are teaming up for a library card sign-up campaign this fall to encourage all students, their family members and school system staff to get a library card. Beginning in September, which is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and continuing through October, the Library and the school system will promote the benefits of having a card along with the Library’s new and colorful, limited-edition card, designed just for the campaign.
School Superintendent Dr. R. Stephen Green is chairing the campaign. He will appear on a specially-designed poster which will be displayed in each of DeKalb County’s 126 elementary, middle and high schools, encouraging students to get a card. He and his staff also will work with library staff on card sign-up events at schools and at library branches.
“I am honored to be asked and to chair the DeKalb County Public Library sign-up campaign,” said Dr. Green. “The Public Library is a vital partner with the District and our community of learners.”
This year’s campaign theme is “This Card is Your Key.” The limited-edition card for the campaign was designed by library staff member Lee Turner, who won a staff card design contest. Ms. Turner is a youth services specialist at the Chamblee branch.
“We have very talented staff at DeKalb County Public Library. And I think you’ll agree with me when you see Lee Turner’s design,” said Library Director Alison Weissinger. “The design is perfect for this year’s campaign, incorporating as it does many of the great benefits a library card offers. Those include free access to the internet and WiFi; free access to electronic resources that can help with homework assignments, learning a new language or preparing for the SAT and other important tests; and free access to books, movies and music.”
Only 10,000 cards have been produced for the “This Card is Your Key” campaign, and the design will not be produced again. You can have this card too, while the supply lasts, even if you are not a student.
