Yamhill-Carlton Intermediate School

Hello YCIS Families--

In the blink of an eye we are on the last day of April with a little over 5 weeks of school to go. The end of the school year is in sight. Here is all the news and happenings at YCIS.

In May we will be taking part in state testing. This is a scaled down version from previous years with each grade level having a required section and an optional section. The test should take no more than an 1 hour and 15 minutes. Grade level teachers will communicate out the dates for these tests. If you would like your student to take part in the optional test we will need parent authorization and approval to do so.

4th: English Language Arts (required), Mathematics (optional)

5th: Science (required), ELA, Math (optional).

6th: English Language Arts (required), Mathematics (optional)

7th: English Language Arts, Mathematics (required), No optional test

8th: Science, Mathematics (required), English Language Arts (optional)

With the warmer weather comes the annual revisiting of our dress code (see diagram below). Please take note of these guidelines. If a student's attire is deemed inappropriate we will provide them with an outer layer to wear for the rest of the day.

8th Grade Promotion is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 7th. More details will come as we get closer. We are keeping an eye on the county metrics to determine what guidelines and requirements we must follow to have this event.

Attention 8th Grade Parents! We would like to begin the process of putting together an 8th Grade slide show. Please send baby/toddler/kinder as well as current pictures of your 8th graders. We would also like pictures of school related activities and events that our 8th graders have taken part in. Please send to Mrs. Sullens at and we will put those into a slide show for your viewing pleasure.

School pictures have arrived! We will distribute them to your student's grade level teacher (4th-6th) or your students 4th period teacher (7/8).

YCIS BOGO Book Fair will be held May 6th - 13th in the library.

Students will have the opportunity to shop during their scheduled library time. The library will be open to family members to shop from 2:20 - 3:30 by appointment only, please contact Karissa Peterson at to do so.

Scholastics E-Wallet is a safe and independent way for your student to shop at the book fair! No need to carry cash around and you set the limit! Go to to set up an account today.
