Student Research
Grade 9 Balloon Speeches: Students in 9th grade English classes with Mrs. Werther and Mrs. Weidman engaged in the rite of passage that is the Balloon Speech! These students conducted biographical research and produced persuasive speeches, which were presented to their classmates.
Grade 10 TED Talks: Students in grade 10 English classes with Mr. Jeffreys, Mrs. Werther, Mrs. Ihnatolya and Mrs. Lehman researched contemporary issues of their choice. As a group, they collaborated to produce TED talks in which they called on their fellow students to understand the importance of the issue and to act in meaningful ways.
Grade 11 "Adam Ruins Everything" Skits: 11th grade English students were asked to take a common assumption and research the truth behind this idea. For example, a common assumption today might be, "you have to get into a good college in order to be successful." These students explored their topics from all angles, and then presented skits to their class to debunk the myth.
Grade 11AP Exploration of School Issues: students in Mrs. Richard's 11AP classes explored a variety of topics relevant to students at Niskayuna High School and will present their findings at a formal symposium in the library and the Little Theater on May 21. Students will present panel and round-table discussions as well as poster presentations in the fashion of a professional conference.
Grade 12 Counterculture Research: students in Mr. Lester's SUPA classes examined countercultures throughout the world, addressing how these movements affect culture as well as how they can be appropriated by the dominant culture.
Grade 12 Sociology: students in Mrs. Oppenhiemer's Sociology class researched current topics such as drug use, mental health and schooling and examined their impact on culture and society.
Coming soon... Grade 12 Documentary Film students in Mr. Lester's class will explore issues of Media Literacy, and grade 12 Forms of Writing Students will craft and record Public Service Announcements.

Adobe Spark
Flipgrid
Flipgrid is an online tool that allows a teacher to pose a question or prompt, and students can respond with short videos. It's a great way to get students talking about course content, reflecting on a book or film, or asking questions about something you’re exploring in class. It also seems like a fun way to bring real voices and actual faces to online student communication.
NewseumEd
