Week of September 25-29
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!!
Dear Parents,
There are many reasons to be proud of the Simon Middle School students. One of these reasons come in the form of the Mariachi group led by Mr. DeLeon, Teacher.
Last Friday, at 6pm, I was invited to attend the dialogue for Peace and Progress celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at the Kyle City Hall.
As I took pictures, I could hear City Council members and others (taking pictures/videos) commenting about how impressed they were with the quality of the music and the students behavior.
The group's performance was amazing! We all should be proud of the way the Varsity Mariachi represented Simon Middle School and their families.
This is one of many examples of how SMS is preparing students for life.
I have attached some pictures for your enjoyment.
Congratulations Mr. Deleon and the SMS Mariachis!!👌👌🎉🎊

Course Planning for High School & Beyond
An important change to graduation plans is all students must have 40 hours of community service to graduate. They can start earning them freshman year. The high schools will help students with this task but the school board approved it as a graduation requirement.
Timeline for Course Selection/Graduation Planning
- 6th-occurs in March
- 7th- It is a board policy that all 7th graders create a graduation plan and receive academic advising for the student and parents.
- starts with 5 year high school planning in Nov/Dec
- continues with individual student/counselor meetings
- ends with one-on-one parent/counselor zoom meetings in February/March
- 8th-Most students have a 4 year High school plan from last year; will work with the high school in January to edit existing plans and/or create new ones
