Main Conflict
Henry wanted to be a hero in the battle, but his nerves got the best of him and he kept fleeing so he finally builds up courage and eventually becomes a hero and holds up the flag during battle.
Characters
Henry Fleming (Youth Soldier)- Henry is a young man who enlisted in the army. During battle he kept fleeing, but eventually became a hero.
Jim Conklin (Tall Soldier)- He is pretty tall.
Wilson (Loud Soldier)- He is pretty loud.
Setting
This story mainly takes place on civil war battlefields.
Event 1
At the beginning of the book, Henry enlists in the army so that he could go to war. This goes along with the main conflict because Henry couldn't ever be a hero in the war without going to the war.
Event 2
When Henry goes to war, he eventually gets scared and runs away from battle. Then he realizes that he wants to go back and fight and become a hero, so he does. This goes along with the main conflict because Henry realized that he would never be a hero if he runs away, so he goes back.
Event 3
Henry and Wilson lead the regiment to a victory. This goes along with the main conflict because people were finally starting to think of Henry as a hero.
Event 4
Henry picked up a flag in the middle of battle. The reason that this goes along with the conflict is because if the flag is on the the ground, it means you are losing, so picking it up was heroic.
Event 5
Henry looked back on his experiences and realizes that he is a courageous and that he is a hero. This goes with the main conflict because Henry always wanted to be a hero in the war and he finally realizes he is a hero.
