- FOOD ALLERGIES - UPDATE FROM THE NURSE
Food Allergies Awareness from Nurse O'Mara: There are about 5.9 million kids living with food allergies, 1 in 13 kids under the age of 18, which is about 2 in every classroom. The holiday season from now through the new year poses threats to kids trying to manage food allergies. We would like to increase awareness about food allergies by reminding students and parents of the following:
- Food allergies are very serious
- Reactions can be life threatening
- Preventing exposure is crucial
- Don’t share food, forks, knives, spoons, or straws with friends
- Wash hands before and after eating
- If a friend with allergies is sick, tell an adult right away. This will make sure that your friend gets help and gets the medicine they need to feel better
- Food allergies can make Halloween even scarier. Please remember not to bring anything with nuts into the classroom. THANK YOU!
- NOON HOURS
- McGrath is in need of TWO noon hour supervisors. If you'd like to work between 10:30-2:00 and enjoy working with children, we would love to have you join us! Please call our McGrath office at (810)591-5827 if you're interested.
- BUS CANCELLATIONS
- Please read your email! The district is short-staffed for bus drivers and notices for cancellations are going out daily. If you aren't getting Grand Blanc Community Schools emails, please call your building office ASAP. McGrath: 810-591-5827; Anderson: 810-591-5829 for help in getting your contact information updated.
- We are hiring bus drivers! There are signs with QR codes in front of each building in addition to the flyer linked in the previous sentence. If you're interested in working as a driver, please join our amazing GBCS team!
- In the event your student's bus is canceled, students need to be dropped off beginning at 8:35 AM - no earlier! We do not have staff available to supervise students until this time.
- HARVEST FESTIVAL - Mark your calendars for October 27 5:00-7:00 PM
- We hosted over 1250 students and family members last year and we need to get ready!
- Candy donations are being accepted in both building offices now
- Next week, an RSVP flyer will go out to all of our families. Please return as soon as you're able so we can have an accurate count for the event.
- TRANSPORTATION INFO
- Please do not walk through the morning drop off lines to bring your student into the building. This is dangerous! If you need to walk your student in yourself, please park in the main lot in front of the office and walk your student inside.
- If you need to change your student's method of transportation home, please make sure to notify your building office: Anderson office: 591-5829; McGrath office: 591-5827
- Teachers cannot change the way a student is getting home without verification, which needs to be communicated through the office BEFORE 3:00 PM.
- If your student arrives at school after 8:50 AM, please walk into the office and sign in your student.
- Car Pick Up - Please make sure to remain in your vehicles as you drive up to our cones at the end of the day at both Anderson & McGrath. We will get your students to you as quickly as we can!
- GRADE LEVEL/CLASSROOM INFO:
- Thank you to Mr. Weiss's class for hosting our school announcements this week! We are so proud of all of you. Next up: Mrs. McMahan's class!
- Pumpkin Book Reports for first graders are due on Monday, Oct 24.
- MISCELLANEOUS INFO
- Please see the end of this newsletter for a full Popcorn Day schedule for 22-23.
- Grownups need to bring in any student medication that needs to be taken at school (including inhalers, epi pens, etc.) with appropriate medical documentation. The link for the student medication form is HERE and can also be found on our GBCS.ORG website under FOR PARENTS > PARENT DOCS AND FORMS.
- Please make sure to bookmark our 22-23 school year calendar.
- Both offices could use water bottle donations for students. If you're able to help by sending in bottled water, please do!
- If you've already turned in your Parent Volunteer form to our Anderson or McGrath offices, please make sure you also send a picture of your driver's license to kbohr@gbcs so that we can process these forms. Every building in the district collects these each year for our volunteers. Thank you for your help!
