Library Learning
Our K-2 students have learned about taking care of their library books and how to use some of the tools in their Seesaw classroom. Students have also completed interest forms to indicate what they would like to read each week. These forms are used to select books for the students and check them out. The books are then delivered to students' homerooms or placed in the materials pick up area for pick up on the designated day. Students also were shown how to access the Tumblebook database and we read a story from there.
Our 3-5 students have learned some ways to search the library catalog and how to place books on hold. These books are then checked out to students and either delivered to students' homerooms or placed in the materials pick up area for pick up on the designated day. Students were reminded how to access the Tumblebook database and taught how to search using several different search options, including how to search for books on their independent reading levels.
The Tumblebook library is an electronic database of ebooks, audiobooks, and videos and makes a great supplement to our library collection. There is a how-to video on the "Video" page of the Harvey Library website if you are interested in finding out more about this great resource.

Virtual Storybook Pumpkin Patch
****************************************************************
DIRECTIONS
Think of your favorite book and design your pumpkin based on your favorite character from that book.
Purchase a pumpkin that is NO larger in size than a basketball. It can be real or fake.
Fake pumpkins can be purchased at places like Target, Michaels, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Jo-Ann's.
Gather your decorating supplies. Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run, and spray paint will gradually dissolve the pumpkin. You can add materials, like yarn, buttons, wiggly eyes, etc.
Decorate your pumpkin WITHOUT carving, cutting, or poking holes in it. They can get moldy and smelly if they are carved.
You can have a parent or other caregiver help you, but most of the work should be done by you.
Fill in the entry form..
Take a photo of your pumpkin and another of your paper (but not you) and email both photos to mtotin@teachers.kusd.edu. Make sure we can read the paper.
Mrs. Totin (the gardener) will put the photos into a slide presentation with your first name and your grade (no last names or student photos!) and share it on the library website and the library’s Facebook page.
PHOTOS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2020.
Participation is completely voluntary. This is not a contest. Have fun and be creative!
