2020/21 Elementary Principal Update
November 1, 2020
Dear Parents,
This week, we want to remind you of the importance of self-care. With so much responsibility and demand in our lives, the first thing we often overlook is taking care of ourselves. Taking care of ourselves is critical to being able to address the needs of others: our children, family, friends, and colleagues alike. As the saying goes, we can’t pour from an empty cup.
Stress during the holiday season happens every year to many of us. However, during this time of changes and uncertainties stemming from the pandemic and election, this year has the potential to be more stressful. More than ever, it is important to remember that the only thing we have control over is ourselves and how we respond to life’s happenings and daily circumstances. It’s easy to say that we never have enough time, but we encourage you to find little “pockets of time” to get things done and seek family members to help to ease the burden. Most children are more than happy to help while learning new skills and feeling great about supporting their parents.
Finally, as we close the door to the month of October, which was the National Dyslexia Month, we want to continue to bring greater awareness to the needs and support of our children with special needs. We want to share the website, Understood.org, which has many helpful resources for families, educators, and young adults. There is a section called, Through Your Child’s Eyes, a simulation where you (and your child) can see from another child’s perspective what it is like to experience firsthand how challenging and frustrating it is to struggle with learning and/or attention difficulties. This site also provides helpful tips for parents and educators to help children who need additional support with practicing social distancing, Back-to-School Anxiety, and coping with school/work refusal.
Sincerely,
Emily Blaney, LCE Principal
Carrie Hetzel, PCY Principal
Cory Pak, PCR Principal

TK - 2nd Grade Waiver Update
This is important, because the start date for the return of our TK - 2nd grade hybrid students could be as early as mid-November. We are busy getting our campuses ready for students again. Next weekend, we will send out a special edition newsletter specifically addressing the reopening and what to expect.
November is Native American Heritage Month
Students may also be interested in viewing this interactive map to learn about where the many varied indigenous groups lived.
