Olmsted County 4-H News
October, 2021
Notes from Kristina
What is this newsletter? There have been some sudden changes to Minnesota 4-H's communication plan. The Clover Update, our previous newsletter model, will still be delivered to your email and will be sent only with State and Regional articles and updates. The Olmsted County 4-H News is our new approach to share Olmsted County updates and information specific to our county's youth attending regional/state events (like event scholarship info). We ask that you make sure to read the newsletter, which you can expect in your inbox on the first of every month, as it will be your main source of news and updates. For additional reminders on upcoming events and highlights from clubs, you can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
Re-enrollment is open! Follow the link below to re-enroll in 4-H! This allows us to confirm that we have the most accurate contact information and an updated list of project areas your family is interested in. If you're not planning on participating in 4-H in 2021-2022, please let us know and you will be removed from our mailing list.
Our 4-H program continues to grow thanks to the involvement of many volunteers and community partners! In many conversations recently, it has occurred to me that many of our families aren't aware of the current reach of our program. Check out the September 4-H Report to our County Extension Committee below to see what 4-H has looked like in Olmsted County this summer and moving into fall.
Lastly, we can't be successful without volunteers. Find some of the ways you can help Olmsted County 4-H listed in this document from the club leader resource article. I would like to highlight the need for new members to join our Blue Ribbon Auction Committee (meeting quarterly) which will next meet on October 12 and our Fall Festival Committee (needs representation from all clubs) which will hold an event wrap-up meeting on October 20 and make initial plans for 2022.

Annual Volunteer Training & Youth Officer Training
It's that time of year again for your club to send at least one youth to officer training and one adult to Annual Volunteer Training. These are trainings led by staff to support you in your roles and are a great opportunity to hear ideas from people participating in 4-H in other clubs and counties! There are multiple in-person and virtual options for training this year!
Youth Officer Training:
- In-Person Training on Saturday, November 13th from 9:30am-noon - Olmsted County 4-H Building
- Virtual Training on Tuesday, November 16th from 6:30-8:30pm
Adult Volunteer Training:
This year's topic is: helping youth find their spark! A spark is a passion for a self-identified interest or skill that metaphorically lights a fire in a young person’s life, providing energy, joy, purpose, and direction. Having a spark or sparks gives a young person a sense of direction and encourages goal setting.
- In-Person Training - Saturday, November 13th from 9:30 am -12 pm- Olmsted County 4-H Building
- In-Person Training - Saturday, October 30th from 9:30-11:30 am - Rushford
- In-Person Training - Wednesday, November 10th from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm - Zumbrota
- Virtual - Tuesday, October 26th at 7:30 pm
- Virtual - Thursday, November 4th at 6:30pm

Did you know Olmsted County 4-H has project resources that you can check out?
Leading a club meeting, cloverbud activity, or brainstorming your projects for fair next year? Our resources are available to all 4-H youth, clubs, and partners. This is a collection of curriculum, project kits based on some of the lessons, and re-usable materials.
You can view these resources at: https://sites.google.com/umn.edu/olmsted4h/home. Check back often as we add more curriculum and kits that are developed. We are also doing a big office/storage cleaning in October and hope to have our resource webpage fully up to date.
