Superintendent of Schools
An update from Dr. Brian Harris: March 16, 2020
Dear Barrington 220 Community:
First, I want to thank all of our staff and students for doing a great job implementing our Distance Learning Plan today. This is an unprecedented time in our community and across the country and I am proud to work in a school district where we can continue to provide meaningful learning opportunities for our students.
Today was considered an “Emergency Day”, similar to what we would use if there was inclement weather. This means attendance was taken and any work done today will be used for grading. All students were marked present if they engaged in any way. This day will not have to be made up at the end of the school year.
Starting tomorrow all schools in Illinois are being ordered to close by Governor Pritzker through March 30. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has mandated that the rest of the days this week (March 17-19) be considered “Act of God Days”. As a reminder, Friday, March 20 was a previously scheduled day off for our students and March 23 - 27 is Spring Break. “Act of God Days” do not have to be made up at the end of the school year, however they differ from an Emergency Day in the following ways:
No attendance is taken
Any work assigned to students is not considered for grading
Even though attendance and grades will not be a factor in schools across Illinois for the rest of this week, in Barrington 220 we believe it is important to continue engaging our students. Our schools and staff are leaders in public education and we have a robust Distance Learning Plan in place, therefore our staff will continue to provide activities and assignments each day that advance student learning.
In addition, Barrington 220 will be providing meals to families in need starting tomorrow. Please check our coronavirus webpage for details. Families may pick up meals starting Tuesday, March 17 at the following locations from 8am-10am (or until food is depleted):
Sunny Hill Elementary: drive-thru or walk up option
BMS-Station: drive-thru option in front of school
Barrington High School: drive-thru option on Hart Road entrance (west side)
As always, thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this difficult time. We will continue providing regular updates, as this situation evolves.
