Music 6:
Welcome to FMS, 6th graders! I'm so excited to get to know you, learn with you, and to explore music together! During our time together we will perform music, create new compositions, and practice communicating about music using appropriate music terminology.
Check out the links below for practicing your music skills! These will be linked on our Google Classroom for activities that may be completed if you are finished with work in music class. (Links are World Music Composer, Colonial Williamsburg, and Arthur)
ARTS ALIVE 8:
This is going to be an AMAZING semester! I hope you are as excited as I am for our upcoming creative opportunities!
YOU ARE THE NEWEST PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE AT FMS!!!
What does that mean?! Together, you will learn what an opera really is...and then you will COMPOSE and PERFORM your own! If this sounds like a lot of work, you're right. It is! It is also an opportunity to take risks, grow, and to have TONS of fun. I KNOW we are going to have a rewarding experience, and am already grateful for your willingness to jump right in!
We have begun our study of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. This will be the opera we use to learn about the art form itself BEFORE we compose our first FMS Opera! We are investigating ancient Egypt because that is where the action takes place in Aida.
FMS Vocal Music handbooks have been sent home in two formats: paper copies have gone home with students, and electronic versions have been emailed to students and parents using the email address on file with FPS. Please return your choir contract, signed by a parent and the student, by September 1st!

From The Art Room
Welcome Back to all students and families! I am very much looking forward to the 2017/2018 school year. As always if you have any concerns or questions, feel free to drop me an email at cchapman@fulton58.org anytime.
Each week I will give a rundown of what we are doing in class, and will try to post photos of projects and happenings in class. We are already off to a good start, and after establishing expectations in the classroom we jumped right in to our first projects.
6th Grade are working on their “Art About Me” project, which is a little mini lesson to get them warmed up, and start thinking about art and what it means to them. It also allows me to get to know them a little more, and give them an opportunity to show off their talents.
We will soon go into learning about line and shading techniques.
7th Grade
We started illuminated Manuscripts and talking about what times where like before the ability to print text and technology. What were these times like? And what was the significance of this in the Art world?
This project give students freedom of designing Art about themselves and also critical problem solving with specific design requirements and troubleshooting.
8th Grade
Working on building their Dream Locker. This is a project that allows students creative freedom, while looking for specific structure. I focus on line quality, and craftsmanship in presentation, and allow them to think outside the box a little more with this project. And to bring in their individual personalities.
Artfully yours,
Craig C Chapman
