White Memorial Conservation Center
A beautiful boardwalk adventure for all seasons
How long is the walk?
The Little Pond Trail is 1.75 to 3 miles, depending on where you park. The property includes over 40 miles of trails so there are lots of options to explore.
Some notes from my family's experience:
Over a mile of this hike is on an elevated boardwalk that spans marshes and rivers. We have enjoyed it in all seasons and it is always beautiful! You can park in the main parking lot and make this about a 3 mile hike, including some woods trails and some walking on gravel roads that are open to cars (trail map HERE), or you can park at the trail head for a short woods walk before it joins the boardwalk loop (driving and parking directions HERE).
The boardwalk is currently a one-way loop. It is only about 30 inches wide in most places. Leashed dogs are welcome but it is not particularly stroller friendly, and there is one stretch of boardwalk that goes over deeper water where small children will need close supervision.
All the buildings on the property are currently closed due to COVID-19 (as of winter 2021), however when the buildings are open this is easily a full day destination for a family outing. The nature center has lots of engaging exhibits and the trails on the property offer multiple options for adventures.
