Butterfly School News for OCTOBER 2019!!
It has been a wonderful beginning of school!! I love seeing these sweet little faces every morning! We are blessed with a great school of sweet families and wonderful teachers! Best part of this job is being able to walk through our halls and hear the awesome instruction going on in our classrooms!! Our learners are becoming more familiar with their classroom routines and developing relationships with their teachers and friends.
Just a friendly reminder that school begins promptly at 9:00 AM. The alarm on my watch notifies me at 8:54 AM so I can have the doors opened by 8:55. My alarm reminds me to close the doors at 9:05 in the morning and 2:05 in the afternoon. You can buzz in for late entry.
Is my child REALLY missing that much when we're 10 minutes late in the morning?
YES- engaging activities begin in the classroom at the start of the day.
Is 2:05 really considered late?
YES! At 2:05 teachers are instructed to bring children either to After School Care or my office if they are not signed up for After School Care.

Chapel Chat -Ms. Chris
So many exciting things are happening this month in Chapel. Fall is in the air and we are noticing our world is bursting with color! Our lessons will focus on God’s creations, including creating us. Be looking for a letter in your child’s folder on October 29 about collecting cans of food to help families in our community that need food for Thanksgiving. October’s Memory Verse is Genesis 1:31 “Everything God made was very good.”
Musical Moments! Ms. Deborah
Happy Fall!! We are off to a great start in music! This month for the 2s and Toddlers we will continue our nursery rhymes while we shake, dance, clap, and sing to the beat. They are learning that music can be fast or slow as well as loud or soft. I love how their personalities are coming out and many are singing along and participating.
The 3s will continue their alphabet journey through music with D for Drum Majors and Dynamics, E for Early Music (medieval, renaissance, and baroque), F for Folk Songs, and G for guitar. Our theme for singing will be school days including songs about numbers, colors, shapes, calendars, and letters. I use this time to teach them about tempo and dynamics in music.
The Pre-K classes will visit a couple of countries music, Asia and Mexico, followed by the introduction of different instruments starting with string and woodwinds. We also will be looking more in depth into tempo and dynamics, and start to talk about rhythm.
Everyone will finish out the month with a fun day of Halloween songs. I hope that your children are enjoying music as much as I am!! God’s blessings!!
Amazing Artists at Butterfly School! -Ms. Jennifer
Happy Fall! The boys and girls have done a wonderful job on their Wassily Kandinsky art project and a new favorite Elmer the elephant. This month we will be working on shapes, lines and outlines and introducing a new artist of the month, Vincent Van Gogh.

Library- Ms. Lee
In October we will be reading about pumpkins, fall and the change of weather we experience as we move from season to season. We will read about how we use our senses to learn about the world around us. We will look at many books about our community helpers too.
The four year olds will begin checking out books this month. They will bring home a book they have selected that you can read and discuss with them– We’re excited!!
Sensational Science- Ms. Tracy
In Science this month we’ll be learning about architecture using marshmallows, liquids and solids while making Halloween Goop, and chemical reactions making Pumpkin-canos erupt!
Coding Kids- Ms. Susan
This month we will be UNPLUGGED! What does that mean? Coding is telling the computer, website or app what you want it to do. We will be practicing this idea without any technology. We will be leaning basic commands like front, back, left and right through fowling directions to reach a destination.

Did You Know??
Can you name the commonly known five senses?
Everybody knows Sight ,Hearing, Touch, Smell and Taste. Did you know there are more?
One is PROPRIOCEPTION. This involves the sense of movement and position of our arms, legs and muscles. It deals with how our brain understands where our body is in space. An example of a PROPRIOCEPTION task would be to touch your finger to your nose with your eyes shut. A person with poor PROPRIOCEPTION would find this difficult. This person is often seen as someone who is clumsy and uncoordinated.
Another is the VESTIBULAR, a system that includes the middle ear and inner ear. It is the sensory system that contributes to spatial orientation and the sense of balance . It involves motor functions that maintain posture. The VESTIBULAR system helps to keep balance, and to stabilize the head and body during any kind of movement. As information travels through the brain, the brain provides a response. When a VESTIBULAR system works ‘normally’, the brain categorizes information correctly and appropriate responses are given. A strong vestibular system is important for normal movement and equilibrium.
So why is this important to your child?
Daily experiences that help children build strong vestibular systems, are the activities schools have been omitted from the school day. There is no longer time to explore and move, and recess time is at a minimum. Children come home and sit in front of a TV or video game. They are not outside and moving like kids were decades ago.
A child with a strong Vestibular system moves efficiency and safely. They play, move, jump and have muscle tone that steadies the head and neck.
When a child has an under-developed vestibular system, the brain does not get the correct information from the eyes, ears, or movement in the body. In turn it makes the brain and body feel unsafe. When a child does not feel safe, the arousal level, attention, and survival mode responses kick in.
These topics fall under the umbrella of sensory possessing. If you suspect your child has a sensory processing issue that is affecting their quality of life, then you should consult with your pediatrician. You might also consider contacting an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist that specializes in sensory processing and sensory integration for an evaluation.
