THE 3'ES
K-12
The Big Idea
The 3E's is a great strategy to differentiate a lesson or unit. Pick one of the E's to create a rigorous learning experience for your students.
Directions
ENRICH: This means focusing and narrowing on a specific component of a topic. For example: When studying the solar system, students involved in an enrichment activity would concentrate on a specific planet or item within the solar system.
EXTEND: This is where you take the topic and expand it to larger disciplines. For example: Students studying the solar system would extend the topic to the discipline of astronomy.
ENHANCE: This is where you take the concept embedded within the unit of study and expand it. For example: The solar system unit is focused on the concept of systems. Students would look for other systems and then compare and contrast those systems to the solar system.
Variations
The 3E's is a tool that can be used to differentiate instruction and support all students to experience rigorous learning opportunities with the content.
