Proposed changes to Texas A-F Accountability Ratings
The Texas Education Agency has announced expected significant changes to the A–F accountability process that will begin to impact students, schools, and districts in 2023. We anticipate these changes to the Accountability system will cause a decrease in ratings for schools and districts across the state. While the changes are still preliminary, districts across the state are preparing staff and the community for the changes, which are expected to be finalized in the summer 2023.
Changes to the system center around:
- STAAR testing
- College, Career and Military Readiness Evaluation
- Closing the Gap
- District Ratings

Staff Shout Outs
We love our PfISD staff members and we know our parents do too! We want to provide an opportunity for our parents to publicly recognize and thank our staff members who serve our students, staff and the community. We have created a Google Form to provide information directly to us to share with our staff as a whole and let you see the difference you are making in a student's life every single day. Please click here for the Google Form.
These Shout Outs will be included in upcoming issues of the Parent and Staff Newsletters. If a Shout Out directly references a student, we will not include the parent name to protect the child's anonymity. If you are recognized in an anonymous Shout Out and want to learn the parent's name, please contact Tamra Spence at tamra.spence@pfisd.net.
THANK YOU TO OUR AMAZING PFISD STAFF MEMBERS FOR EVERYTHING THEY DO FOR OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY!
Melanie Silva of Murchison (via Vanessa V.): Mrs.Silva is such an amazing teacher. She has helped my son become better in aspects ranging from being a better reader, to being less shy and making friends. First grade isn't always easy, but with Mrs. Silva, my son is flourishing. Thank you for all you do.
Mrs Nelson of Special Ed (via Anonymous): Mrs.Nelson is amazing. She has been our speech guru for years and helped our child improve his speech and confidence. She makes this a fun experience and is so genuine in her approach. We love you! Thank you for helping our child reach their goals
Claire Calvey of Murchison Elementary School (via Melissa F.): Mrs.Calvey is a very dedicated teacher who goes above and beyond to help her students succeed. I appreciate the videos she has created to demonstrate math strategies. The videos have been so helpful during homework time, because I am able to reinforce the exact strategies that were taught in class. Mrs.Calvey gives thoughtful and prompt responses to messages I send her regarding my child’s progress. She even answered homework questions during the ice storm when she was without power and displaced from her home. Mrs.Calvey sets high expectations for her students, while also being understanding and fair. She provides wonderful support for my child, and for me as a parent, trying to help my child improve her math skills. I am very grateful for all that Mrs.Calvey has done for us this year!
Ms. Robertson of 1st Grade Highland Park Elementary (via Felicia K.): I am so impressed with Ms. Robertson. She brings her passion for teaching, joy and commitment to her students each day and the HPES community.
Ms. Duong of 3rd Grade Highland Park Elmentary (via Felicia K.): Ms. Duong is a great teacher. She brings her joy to the classroom and students thrive! Thanks for a great year!
Yolanda Reyes of Highland Park Elementary, Librarian (via Felicia K.): I have the privilege to volunteer in the library this year and I get to see Ms. Reyes at work and I must say I'm thoroughly impressed by her. She shows that she values each student by often getting down to their level and with eye contact. With a gentle voice she keeps order, respect and learning as the focus in her library. I believe students thrive because of her commitment to an organized and peaceful library.
Melissa Russell of Rowe Lane Elementary 1st grade teacher (via Tina S.): My son loves having Mrs. Russel as a teacher. She is kind and cares for all her students. My son was out sick for a whole week and she made sure he had everything he needed to keep on track with what was happening at school so he didn’t miss a beat. Thanks for checking in on him and for being so organized and prepared.
Audra Lucas of Murchison elementary school (via Sarah G.): My son loves Ms.Lucas! His love for reading has grown by leaps and bounds this year and we are amazed at how far he has come thanks to her dedication and love of reading and history she shares with her students. We can’t say enough great things about Ms.Lucas.
Teachers and Staff of Rowe Lane Elementary (via RLES PTO): A HUGE Thank You to the teachers and staff of RLES that came out and volunteered on a Saturday to make our carnival a success!!! We appreciate all that you do!!! You guys go above and beyond for our kids! We ❤️ y’all!
