Supplies for Success

Plans Underway for Community Event

The Irving community is coming together for the ninth consecutive year to organize Supplies for Success, an event that assists Irving ISD families who are in most need of assistance. The event is a community outreach event that provides backpacks filled with school supplies, free dental and vision screening and direct contact with more than 30 agencies that offer social services and other resources for families. They are seeking groups that want to serve on the planning committee as well as companies and organizations who will organize school supply drives for the effort. For more information, contact John Munoz at Irving Family YMCA at or 972-986-8898.

Chamber's Call to Action

Mike McCall, board chair of the The Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, has a Call to Action to Irving businesses. Mr. McCall has challenged all businesses to partner with an Irving ISD school and begin investing in our community’s workforce. He leads the charge with first-hand experience as to the tremendous impact business can make on schools. Mr. McCall is the Director of Employee Relations at NCH Corporation in Irving, whose partner school is Good Elementary School. NCH teams up with their great network of suppliers to hold an annual golf tournament to raise funds. His volunteer team works closely with principal, Dr. Jill Tokumoto, to identify the highest needs and fill the gaps. Students have taken educational field trips, technology equipment has been purchased and most importantly students in need of a caring adult in their life have been matched to an NCH volunteer mentor who meets with them weekly. Is your company ready to take the challenge? Do you want to expand your partnership activities? Contact the Partners in Education office to get started.
