Glenealy School Newsletter
24th August 2017
Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Wow - what a week of atrocious weather conditions, it can only get better can’t it?
Meet your child’s teacher tonight!
We look forward to seeing you at school this evening from 6-6.45pm to join the presentation in your child’s classroom. This is an adults only evening where the teacher will share information that will enable you to understand the way the classroom will work, how partnerships between home and school can work at their best and revise school wide philosophies that underpin the learning and teaching at Glenealy School. The presentations will begin promptly at 6pm. Unlike other years, the PTA AGM will not take place after the meeting. This year the AGM will be in October, coinciding with the exciting launch of our new school uniform.
Thanks to those of you who have replied to the teacher's email regarding ‘getting to know your child’. Tonight’s session is not structured for individual parent teacher feedback due to the time frame and the number of parents attending at the same time. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers around more general themes rather than child specific details. Individual 3-way conferences will take place in late September.
See you tonight!
Diary
Your child has been provided with a Glenealy School Diary. The cost of the diary is $80.00. There is no need to send in that payment now, we will add this cost to the first invoice for class events or excursions that your child takes part in.
Have you downloaded the Glenealy School App yet?
Keep up to date by using our Glenealy School App. This is a great way to have all the key information like newsletters, dates, calendars contacts at your fingertips. It’s a simple easy app to use. To download please find information here
Island School meeting at Glenealy School
Following a very informative meeting held at Island School on Tuesday night about the upcoming transition to the Shatin school premises in December, Stephen Loggie (IS Principal) will also be sharing a similar presentation to our community on September 6th in the Centre at School. Please RSVP here if you intend on coming to the evening. This presentation is pertinent to parents of students of all age groups.
Are you interested in becoming a new Parent Representative on our Glenealy School Council?
If so, here is a little bit more information.
GS has a very effective school council, which emphasises the importance of mutual sharing of information, knowledge and ideas. Our members express opinions and perspectives, pose challenging questions, clarify viewpoints, share experiences and exchange information in order to understand the context of the school and enable a shared vision to be achieved.
All members value and acknowledge the need for positive working relationships and partnerships within the school community. The term of office of School Council members is three years but it is possible for members be re-elected for a further term. Nick Phillips our previous elected parent rep stood on our Council for 6 years and was instrumental in helping the school with all of the redevelopment projects achieved over the last 6 years. If you would like to find out more about the role from Nick, he is happy for you to email him for further information. nickphillips70@gmail.com Also feel free to chat with Dave Buckley or myself.
I would personally encourage you to think about this opportunity. Current and past members have found membership to be both interesting and rewarding. We have 6-7 meetings per year taking place on a Tuesday from 12.45-2pm in the school library.
Candidates are required to have a proposer and if more than one candidate is nominated, there will be a ballot. If you would like to nominate a candidate (please obtain their prior permission) you may click here https://goo.gl/forms/rTSeJ0eu8rKEC4Ak1 for the nomination form.
Regards
Brenda

Parents as Partners
The Parents as Partners section of the Glenealy Globe:
This section of the Glenealy Globe has been designed to provide further information about our curriculum, as well as, access to a range of resources that can be used to support any further learning students would like to access outside of school. It also has our Hall of Fame which celebrates further achievements and has images of events Glenealy students have taken part in.
You can access the Globe via the yellow Globe icon located on the Glenealy website.
Once you have clicked here it will ask you for log-in details. These can be found in your child’s diary and are the same for each student.
After logging in you will have access to the following buttons that you will be able to use to navigate the site.

Accessing Mathletics booklets on the Glenealy Globe:
One key area that we often get asked about is finding appropriate mathematics resources to support learning at home that align with our approach here at Glenealy. To support this we have uploaded a comprehensive range of mathematics work books as part of the Parents as Partners section of the Glenealy Globe. These booklets are in pdf. format, so can be downloaded and printed at home for your children to use in hard copy.
It is important to note that it is not an expectation that students work their way through these booklets. However, we have made them available as a resource that can be used, if required, to enable students to continue to work on meeting personalised targets in a style that mirrors our approaches in School.
The booklets have been organized under year groups, however, it is understood that some children will be better suited to the resources from the years below or above their current year group.
If you have any further question regarding the materials in the Parents as Partners section of the Globe then please feel free to contact me.
Kind Regards,
Dave Buckley
