Mackenzie Middle School Faculty 2022-2023
Welcome to Mackenzie Middle School!
Good Day Mackenzie Families,
As we move into the school year at a quick pace, I want to welcome you to the Mackenzie Middle School community. We are excited about how the year has begun and look forward to raising the academic bar for our scholars. We have worked diligently over the summer to create systems and procedures that will help us be fruitful in how we educate our children and how keep them safe each and every day. We have high expectations and hope that you will join us as we challenge them.
First on the list is a quick reminder about our PTA Baked Potato Supper which will take place this Tuesday at 6pm in the school cafeteria. All families are welcome to join us, we just ask that you use the link provided to RSVP. We hope for a great turnout and look forward to seeing you soon!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at the school and we will get with you as soon as possible. You can always email me at email@example.com and I will return your email soon.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP
Our front door opens at 7:35 a.m. for scholars that must be dropped off early. Scholars should be in their classrooms, ready to learn no later than their designated start time.
- 6th graders begin school at 8:14 a.m.
- 7th graders begin school at 8:17 a.m.
- 8th graders begin school at 8:20 a.m.
Late arrivals will sign in at the front office and receive a tardy slip in order to enter the classroom. Our dismissal time is staggered as well. 6th graders end school at 3:56pm. 7th graders end school at 3:58pm. And 8th graders end school at 4:00pm. Scholars are expected to wait in the front area for parent pick up or head to the back alley if riding a bus. Buses leave our campus no later than 4:10 p.m. Scholars must be picked up by 4:15 p.m. If scholars are not picked up, they will be brought back into the cafeteria where they will wait quietly for their ride to arrive. Parents/guardians must enter the building in order to pick up children that are not picked up by 4:15 p.m.
All incoming 7th graders are required to bring an updated shot record or exemption form when registering for school. Failure to provide this information may result in your child being withdrawn from our campus. Our new nurse, Mrs. Kaley Cunningham, begins this week. Please stop by to visit her and welcome her to Mackenzie Middle School.
All scholars are expected to abide by the Lubbock ISD Student Code of Conduct. A copy of the document can be found on the Lubbock ISD website under the “Students” tab. As stated in the Student Code of Conduct, “Principals at individual campuses are authorized to publish and enforce additional rules that are felt to be necessary to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.” We will continue with the Standardized Dress policy that was implemented three years ago. Scholars who come to school out of compliance will be asked to make the necessary adjustments in order to stay in class. This may mean parents will be called to bring a new change of clothes, if necessary. Scholars will be re-admitted to class once they are dressed appropriately for school. Hair must be a natural color without designs. You may have one natural part. Please review the Student Code of Conduct and the Standardized Dress policy prior to the upcoming school year with your child.
Dress Code Reminders
Thursday is "Think College Thursday" which means scholars may wear any college tee shirt only on this day. Scholars must still wear their black or khaki bottoms.
Friday is "School Spirit Friday" which means scholars may wear any Lubbock ISD tee shirt and jeans. Any jeans with holes, tears, shreds, or rips must have tights worn underneath. In other words, no skin should be showing. If skin is showing and tights are not worn, a phone call home will be attempted or your child will end up in ISS for the remainder of the school day if attire cannot be corrected.
TECHNOLOGY & CELL PHONES
As we enter the new school year, please spend some time reviewing the new district policy on cell phones. We have a Cell Phone Contract that parents and scholars must sign during the first week of school. It is required that all cell phones be turned off and placed in the scholar’s backpacks. When entering classrooms, scholars will have the option of turning in their cell phones to the teacher or keeping it in their backpack. The first cell phone violation will result in confiscation and a mandatory parent meeting with administration. A second offense will result in a similar consequence with the added loss of privilege to bring the phone to school in the future. A student’s refusal to follow our policy will be disciplined according to the Student Code of Conduct.
Chromebooks have also been distributed and scholars have received training on the appropriate use of our chromebooks and expectations. Chromebooks will not be taken home during the 2022-2023 school year. However, scholars who need a chromebook to complete work will be able to check out a chromebook from the library.
Athletics students and families can find all necessary forms online at www.lubbockisd.org under the Parent tab. All Pre-Ath 6th grade scholars must have a physical for the upcoming school year. RankOne documents must be completed and uploaded prior to tryouts. You can link to Rank One at rankonesport.com. Coach Fabian Rosales is our Boy’s Athletic Coordinator and Coach Miakol Gonzales is our Girl’s Athletic Coordinator. More information on football and volleyball will be coming soon.
The Mackenzie PTA will meet every month at the school. A calendar of family events and activities will be coming soon. Your involvement is greatly appreciated. You can follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/mackenziemspta. The annual cost to join PTA is $10. This year, we will be selling Mackenzie t-shirts for $20 that will include one PTA membership at our Back-to-School Open House and throughout the first semester. You can also go online, register and order shirts or caps at: https://mackenzie-middle-school-pta.square.site/.

STEM AND THE MAKERSPACE
Mackenzie MS is fortunate to have one of the best makerspaces in all of Lubbock ISD. Our (Librarian) Media Specialist, Mrs. Angela Rajcic, will provide many hands-on learning experiences through the makerspace in our media center (library). Scholars will have time before school, during lunch, and after school to participate with permission from Mrs. Rajcic. It is a privilege to enjoy these extra-curricular enrichment programs so good behavior, passing grades, and exceptional attendance is expected. We will also continue to partner with NSBE@TTU to host various STEM workshops for scholars. More information will be forthcoming. Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MMSLibrary.
STUDENT MEAL PRICES
Mackenzie MS is identified as a Community Eligibility Program campus. There are approximately 35 campuses in Lubbock ISD that are CEP campuses. With this distinction, our campuses are given the opportunity to provide breakfast and lunch for free for all scholars. Scholars are more than welcome to bring their own sack lunches if they choose. Microwave ovens are available in the school cafeteria. Parents may also bring lunch to their children during their scheduled lunch periods. Parents may only bring lunch for their child due to food allergy concerns. This a district policy. Through the online registration process, parents are expected to complete the Socio-Economic Information form. Failure to complete this form may jeopardize your child’s enrollment at Mackenzie Middle School.
