Sheridan Newsletter 4.7.23
April 7, 2023
A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan families,
We had a GREAT week welcoming staff and students back from spring vacation! We had an amazing Book Fair experience partnering with Lake Forest Bookstore. Watching our students search for books, and support each other if they came up a little short on money truly demonstrated the Shark spirit we work so hard to instill! We also were lucky enough to have Staley the Bear visit us to teach us how to best deal with bullying situations. Our Little Sharks had the opportunity to participate in this event, as well, and did a FABULOUS job!
IAR Testing: Starting next week our district administers the IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) in Grades 3-8. We ask that all iPads come to school fully charged each day. Making sure that the software is updated and installed would also be helpful. We appreciate your partnership to make sure this is completed each night. We will be testing Tuesday, April 11-Thursday, April 13. As always, please make sure that your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats a good breakfast and most importantly, gets to school on time! Thank you for your support and partnership.
Morning Traffic Routine: We have heard there is some confusion in the morning car drop-off line. Please form two lines coming in from Sheridan Road. When you get to the front of the line, use an alternating merge to drop students curbside. Remain in your car - we have staff outside to assist your child with their belongings.
From the Yearbook Team: The Yearbook pages are currently being edited and if parents have school activity pictures please email the pictures to sheridansharkphotos@gmail.com.
If you did not purchase a yearbook for your child during Registration, it is not too late to order one! See below for details - order deadline is April 21. (If you don’t recall, just reach out to Mary Kay Hanlon.)
The Early Childhood Program IS featured in the yearbook, so if you would like one, please order!
Steps to order:
1) Email mhanlon@lfschools.net so we know you will be ordering a yearbook - be sure to include your child's name on your email
2) Cost is $20/yearbook -- make your check out to "Lake Forest School District 67"
3) Send check in a labeled envelope with your child (or drop at the office) no later than Friday, April 21
Yearbooks go to press the week of April 24 and will be distributed during the last week of school. All grades, Early Childhood through 4th Grade, are featured in the yearbook. It is a fun keepsake to enjoy for years to come!
From Wellness: Congratulations to all who raised money for the American Heart Association. Sheridan raised $15,518.57. Amazing!
From Your Librarian: Thank you to all who have diligently worked to return library books! We even had a student return all the ones that were mistakenly returned to the Public Library! Thank you. We have had a number of students bring in their own books from home or buy a replacement book for books that have been lost. We thank you but kindly ask that you please send the replacement money via check to Sheridan Activities. We order books with a specific binding to make them last and use specific vendors to purchase books. Thank you.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan

School’s Out Food Drive - May 1-5, 2023
Please join the District 67 APT for the School's Out Food Drive to benefit North Chicago Community Partners. Donations will be accepted from Monday, May 1 to Friday, May 5 at all of our District 67 Schools.
Requested Donations
The following items for your school may be dropped off in your school lobby:
- Cherokee: Canned Mixed Vegetables, Bagged Pinto Beans, Vanilla Extract, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- DPM 5/6: Cereal Boxes, Individual Snack Boxes, Baking Soda or Baking Powder, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- DPM 7/8: Mac & Cheese Cups, Juice Boxes, Cooking Oil, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- Everett: Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Chocolate Chips, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- Sheridan: Apple Sauce, Granola Bars, Canned Corn, Rice, Peanut Butter or Jelly
Why Donate?
One in four children in neighboring communities experience food insecurity and are left without regular meals (normally served at school) over the summer months. To help these students, District 67 works with North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP), a local nonprofit supporting our neighboring youth in North Chicago School District 187. Each week, about 75 families visit NCCP's Family Care Closet, a respectful school-based food pantry available to area families. Your donation of food matters!
Volunteers Needed
Join us to help sort the food after school on Friday, May 5, 3:30pm at CROYA.
