Norris News!
A weekly update from campus...
August 24, 2018
Hello all and welcome back! It is going to be an amazing school year! It has been an exciting first full week of school!! Here at Norris, building trusting relationships and student safety is always at the forefront of our thinking. As a part of our focus on school safety and connectedness, our morning meetings will cover the following the first days/weeks of school: what is a morning meeting, getting to know you, reporting vs tattling, safety, and bullying. This will allow staff to address district required school safety training in a developmentally appropriate way. It will also provide staff and students the opportunity to enrich relationships and build connections and trust. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.
We wish you a wonderful and restful weekend!

Norris Dismissal
Due to the reduced number of students at Norris this year, our carpool is running quick and smooth. Because of this, we ask that you pick up your students accordingly. We also encourage you to use the carpool lane if you are driving to Norris. We appreciate your help with this as our number one priority is keeping all students and staff members safe.
Please note the following for afternoon carpool procedures:.
- Please make sure that your family dismissal number is visible for the teachers who are loading your children. If you have multiple numbers that you are loading, please make sure ALL numbers are visible.
- Please turn your number over when your child(ren) is loaded safely in your car.
- Please stay in your car, and a Norris staff member will bring your student to you.
If you are picking up your student as a walker, please make sure you have your family dismissal number with you. If you are picking up multiple students, you will need to have all family dismissal numbers.
One great idea to aid in the number flipping process for carpool is to attach your family dismissal number to the passenger side visor. You can flip the visor down when waiting for your student, and then flip it up when they are loaded. See the pictures below (click on the photo to enlarge)...
Attendance Information
All absences, whether excused or unexcused, must be considered in determining whether a student has attended the required 90 percent of instructional days, which may affect the student’s ability to receive course credit and move forward. Also, any unexcused absences, tardies and leave earlies are counted towards the 10 day Truancy Policy.
To report a student absence please send an email by 8:30 am to: norris@friscoisd.org. Be sure to include your student's name, grade, teacher, date and a reason for the absence. Please see the FISD attendance policy to see what absences are considered excused or are unexcused.
School starts at 7:45 am and tardies begin at 7:46 am. Tardies will be effective starting on MONDAY. Leave earlies are any time before 2:55. If you have any questions regarding this policy or need information about your student’s attendance, please contact our Data Clerk, Christine Mendez.
Counselor's Corner
Norris Elementary is preparing for our annual College Week, September 10th – 14th. All FISD schools will be celebrating during this week. The purpose of College Week is to excite and engage students in their educational future, and foster college readiness. In this, we can facilitate resolve for higher education beginning in elementary school by setting goals and forming good habits. To help create interest and enthusiasm for college week, there will be different themes for each day. We invite you and your student to join us!
