Southwest Elementary G.A.T.E.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! It's off to a busy one for my family, as we are expecting our baby boy at the beginning of February. While on maternity leave, Missy Green, our school librarian, will be your child's substitute teacher. G.A.T.E. classes will continue to be held Monday-Friday from 8:15-9:00. If you have any questions while I am gone, you may contact Mrs. Green or Mrs. Simmons.

Over the next several weeks, we will be traveling the world and comparing cultures with eight different versions of Cinderella, including Rough-Face Girl, Korean Cinderella, Yeh-Shen, Vasilisa, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters and more. We started our exploration with what is considered the oldest variant of the Cinderella story, The Egyptian Cinderella. Over the next week, students will be completing a report on either a literature-related or non-fiction topic related to the story. They will ultimately choose their topic and product according to their interests and then complete the project in class (ex. I will compose a song about the products and crops of Egypt).
