MMW List Server Message
June 12, 2015
Hello Maureen M. Welch Parents,
I’ll start by apologizing for the length of this message, but there is so much information to pass along to parents as we conclude the school year. The good news is that barring inclement weather or a late bus, this will be the last time I fill your inbox with a message from school!
I’d also like to congratulate the wonderful students in sixth grade who will be promoted to seventh grade at Richboro Middle School. The Maureen M. Welch staff and I encourage these fine students to remember the importance of family, caring for others, and having the courage to do the right thing. The students in sixth grade represent the Welch community extremely well, and they will certainly experience continued success in middle school and beyond. Congratulations to the sixth grade!
The students and staff will be holding a Relay Recess today. Relay Recess is a school-based activity designed to get younger children involved in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Students can show their support by walking laps in honor of cancer survivors, in memory of those who have lost their battle, and in support of those who are currently fighting the disease. Instead of playing at recess, they will walk laps to pledge to live a healthy lifestyle to help prevent cancer. By hosting this event, the students and staff hope to also spread the word for the Relay for Life Event that will be held at Council Rock South High School on Saturday, June 20th. Students are asked to wear purple on this day, if possible. The Courier Times will be covering the event, and we hope to raise awareness, interest and participation in the CR Relay for Life.
We know that it's going to be a hot day for this event, and the staff and I will keep an eye on conditions and modify the event if needed. Although the activity will be for 30 minutes or 15 minutes for students, sunscreen and water bottles would be ideal for the children. In addition, the activity will take place in the bus circle and there is plenty of shade under the overhang for students to rest and relax if they choose.
The Home Access Center (HAC) will be open for parents to view their child's report cards on June 17th at 4:00pm. In addition, for the final marking period, report cards will be printed and sent home on the last day of school.
As the school year comes to an end, we have another opportunity to help recycle – Crayola ColorCycle, a marker recycling program. Crayola is helping kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. That’s why they have launched Crayola ColorCycle. Through this initiative, students can collect and repurpose used markers. The markers are used to create fuel! 308 markers make one gallon of fuel – enough to power an SUV for 15 miles!
Boxes are in each alcove and will be there until the last day of school. As students clean out their desks, rather than throw out the markers, they can put them into these collection boxes. Feel free to send in any brand of marker, highlighter or dry erase marker! The markers do not have to be the Crayola brand.
This year's PTO online student directory will go offline on July 31st so the organization can conduct the graduation process and prepare the system to accept updated family information for the 2015-2016 school year. Please login before July 31st if you want to print off any grade or classroom reports for your personal records. An email will be sent to all returning MMW families in mid-late August that will detail how to update/confirm family information for the 2015-2016 directory. Any questions, please contact Jen Weaver at email@example.com.
First in Math
Students will still have access to First In Math until July 31st (www.firstinmath.com). The children really enjoy this website and it's a great way for them to maintain their math skills.
2015-2016 School Calendar

Required Volunteer Clearances
As mentioned earlier in the year, due to the recent changes to legislation, the district will be requiring clearances for all volunteers helping in the school, effective July 1, 2015. Governor Wolf recently announced that the costs of obtaining clearances for volunteers will now be waived. Click HERE for details. Important note: All volunteers for any field trip will be required to have the clearances completed and on file.

Reminders from the Welch PTO
Summer is near, but that does not mean the PTO product redemption collections stop! Here are great ways to earn money for our school during the summer months:
- Target Red Card: If you have the Target Red Card, register it with our school and the PTO will receive a percentage of your purchases. https://www-secure.target.com/redcard/tcoe/home
- Shoparoo: Download this app on your smartphone, snap a picture of your receipt from shopping, and the points will earn money for the school www.shoparoo.com
- Box Tops and Labels for Education: Continue clipping box tops and collecting labels for education all summer long. Either send them in by June 1st, or collect and send them in when school starts in the fall.
Thanks to all of the families who have supported our school with these programs throughout the school year.
Foreign Language Program
Are you interested in having your child participate in the Foreign Language Program at our school next fall? The 20-week program runs every Tuesday morning from 8:05 to 8:50 am and cost $198.00 (includes materials). If interested, please email Cat Zant at cat @zant.net or Hilda Diekman email@example.com.
From the Transportation Department
The transportation department would like parents to know that day care arrangements with bussing are automatically cancelled at the end of this year and that they must file new Day Care Forms for the 2015-2016 school year. Failure to file new forms will result in their children being transported to and from their homes. These forms can be found on the district web site. To access the transportation page, go to the drop down box under administration on the Council Rock home page.
Last Day for students is Wednesday, June 17th. This is an early dismissal day and AM Kindergarten will attend.
Maureen M. Welch E-Friday Folder
Here are the latest flyers on our school's E-Friday Folder:
On behalf of the Welch staff and me, I would like to thank moms and dads for making this a wonderful school year. The partnership between families and the school allowed for so many wonderful opportunities for the students to learn and grow. We felt that there were individual and group successes each day throughout the year, and we hope that we provided a safe and fun environment for your child to enjoy coming to school each day.
On a personal note, thank you for making my yearlong tenure at Welch such a memorable one. I greatly appreciated the support from parents, and I feel like I was blessed to have been given the opportunity to lead a school with such wonderful children, families and teachers. I wish for continued success and happiness for everyone in the Welch community and will always regard this year quite fondly. Thank you, and have a safe and relaxing summer with your children.
