WPS’ School Family Involvement Plan
2018-19
The Title I Parental Involvement section of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB)/Elementary & Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires each Title I school to jointly develop with and distribute to parents of participating children, a written parental involvement policy/plan. The purpose of Title I is to provide activities and services which support students in meeting the state’s academic standards.

Parental Involvement Plan Requirements
The school will involve parents in the joint development and joint agreement of its School Parental Involvement Policy and its school wide plan, if applicable, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way under section 1118(b) of the ESEA.
Provide copy of WPS’s school family involvement plan through newsletter.
Provide opportunities for parents to give input and suggestions for revisions (email or in person).
The school will distribute to parents of participating children and the local community, the School Parental Involvement Policy.

The school will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the following elements (listed below):
Annual meeting take place at the first PTO meeting of the year, yearly.
The school will provide to parents of participating children a description & explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, & the proficiency levels students are expected to meet or exceed.
Parent will have an opportunity to take part in the campus’ CAAC team, participating as a joint decision maker about goals and strategies regarding curriculum, instruction and community involvement.

Shared Responsibilities for High Student Academic Achievement
The school will build the schools’ and parent’s capacity for strong parental involvement, in order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement.
WPS holds and will continue to hold evening family events that are centered around academic achievement and family involvement.
WPS and WES work together to maintain a strong PTO, connecting the schools to the community.
WPS will continue to build strong school-community involvement with local businesses and churches.
The school, with the assistance of PfISD, will provide materials & training to help families work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement, such as literacy training, and using technology, as appropriate, to foster family involvement.
Some special education students are offered in- home training for families specific to the student’s disability.
WPS offers evening community events that teach families engaging academically aligned games, such as Literacy Night, Math/Science/Wellness Night, Summer Slide.
WPS intends to hold daytime coffee talks with the Principal combined with WES
The school, with the assistance of PfISD and its families, will educate its teachers, pupil services personnel, principals, and other staff in how to reach out to, communicate with and work with families as equal partners. Priorities exist in the value and utility of contributions of families, and in how to implement & coordinate family programs & build ties between families & schools.
In addition to WPS’s academically aligned activities, we also hold fun social evenings to connect families and schools: Kinder Camp, Tears and Cheers 1st Day of School event, Fall Carnival, Spring Carnival, Bingo Nights.
To the extent feasible & appropriate, the school will take the following actions to ensure that information related to school and family programs, meetings & other activities is sent to the families of participating children in an understandable & uniform format, including alternative formats upon request, and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.
WPS utilizes many modes of communication to stay connected with families: Facebook, Twitter, Listserv, Website (PfIsd), Paper communication.

The School Parental Involvement Policy may include additional discretionary activities that the school, in consultation with its parents, chooses to undertake to build parents’ capacity for involvement in the school to support their children’s academic achievement.

Research shows that when parents are involved in schools, students achieve more, attendance is better, grades and test scores are higher, and children are more likely to reach their potential for intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth. Family involvement in education is critical for the success of students. Windermere Primary School acknowledges this shared responsibility for improved student academic achievement. This partnership between our school and parents will help all students achieve maximum success.
School Responsibilities:
For my students to succeed academically, as a teacher I will:
Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment.
Hold parent-teacher conferences during which expectations for success will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress.
Provide open communication with parents.
Provide parents with opportunities to volunteer and be involved in their child’s learning.

Parent Responsibilities:
As a parent, I will support my child’s learning in the following ways:
Send my child to school prepared and ready to learn.
Volunteer to the extent possible, for my child’s classroom and teacher or other staff at WPS.
Make sure that my child’s homework is completed.
Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
Support the school in its effort to maintain proper discipline.
Stay informed about my child’s education and communicate with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district.
