MMS Parent Newsletter

September

Note from Mr. White

This is the first Monelison Parent Newsletter of the 2022-2023 school year. A newsletter will be sent out each month sharing all the great things happening at MMS. It has been a great start to the school year and we appreciate all of your support. Go Trojans!!

Arrival To School

Our school doors open at 7:30 AM. When students enter the building they are able to grab breakfast and go to their Advisory class. Advisory begins promptly at 7:45 AM. Students that arrive after 7:45 AM will be marked tardy and must check in at the main office.

September is Attendance Awareness Month

The month of September is Attendance Awareness Month. Please encourage your student to come to school each and every day (if well). On September 30th we will celebrate our students with rewards and prizes. What rewards and prizes you may ask...students will just have to be there to find out.

JRA Field Trip

Recently our 7th grade students got the opportunity to participate in the JRA field trip. Students got the chance to learn about the environment and get out and kayak in the James River.
MMS Football Schedule

Are you ready for some football. B-Team football kicks off this month. The first game is September 19th at ACHS Lancer Stadium.

MMS Volleyball Schedule

The MMS Volleyball team has been off to a great start this year. The girls are playing well and getting better each game.

SGA

Student Government is back at MMS. Our nominees have done a great job campaigning by creating posters, filming short speeches, and getting the word out. Voting will take place on Tuesday September 20th. Ask your student who they are voting for.

Dean of Students

Our Dean of Students starts fulltime at MMS on Monday 9/19.

Dear Parents,
I am very excited to be here at MMS! I am looking forward to meeting all of the students and families and working with everyone to ensure that we are successful as a school community. Throughout this year if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me by calling the school or sending an email. It truly does take a village and I am honored to be part of the MMS village!

Principal's Challenge

Each week students are given a Principals challenge. So far some of the challenges have been, to greet your teachers as you entered the classroom, focus on saying please and thank you, and be mindful when you are walking down the hallways. Ask your student what the Principals challenge is each week.

7th Grade Math & Reading Enrichment

7th Grade Math & Reading Enrichment student highlights:

Students will be traveling to the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College on September 22 to explore art and its connections to modern day careers.

Earlier this week students studied the impacts of the 9-11 tragedy and created ribbons to honor and memorialize those who were affected by the event in 2001.
