A Message from DOES Administration
May 2022
Our Boosterthon was AMAZING!!!!! We raised money for our school from 37 states and 5 countries- how cool is that!!! We are awaiting the final pledges to be collected but as of today we have far surpassed our goal of $30,000- we have raised $38,122!!!!!! Of this we get to keep 73% of that which is phenomenal for our students and staff! The students enjoyed their prizes each day and the REALLY enjoyed the throwing water balloons at us (we enjoyed that too!). Thank you for your support and generosity as we continue to Develop Opportunities where Everyone Soars.
"SURFING INTO SUMMER" Parent Night is just around the corner- mark your calendars for May 19th from 5-7pm. All families are invited to attend this event if they have a student who will be in 1st-5th grade for the 22-23 school year. You will be going to the classes for the grade level that your child will be in next year. We will be having stations around school where you and your children can get "make and take" games and other activities to do as a family over the summer. The focus is to have fun practicing what they learned this year so they continue to be ready for next year. We want to work to prevent the "summer slide" that students experience by taking the summer off from learning. Prior to the classroom visit, please come by the cafeteria at 5:00pm for a brief PTA meeting to vote on officers for the 22-23 school year. Mark your family calendars now so you can come as a family. We look forward to seeing everyone that evening!
Please check Bloomz and our school website often as we will post announcements throughout the week. This is our daily means of communications with families at DOES. IF you are not on your child's class page or the school page, please email your teacher so they can get your their code and you can stay in the know.

UPDATED- COVID PROTOCOLS AND SAFETY UPDATES
BE ON TIME and STAY ALL DAY!!!!
10:10am-4:20pm
We will begin receiving students at 9:50am, so they have time to go get breakfast. All students should be at school by 10:05am daily so they are in their class when the bells rings at 10:10am. You can access your child's new bus passes on their myStudent account and you should have received an email with their information as well.
Social Media and Internet Safety
Our children have access to so much information at their finger tips on the computers, phones, tablets, ipads, etc... Unfortunately, many sites are not appropriate for our young students in elementary school. We have seen a increase in issues with this at school ranging from language, inappropriate conversations about violence and topics our young students should not be discussing, so we wanted to bring this to all families attention. Many students spend time on YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and the list goes on and on. Some are even hidden apps on your child's phone so adults think they are something else. Most of theses social media platforms are not intended for or always safe for elementary students. They can quickly get into content that is explicit, violent and scary. Parents should always monitor their child's social history and web browsers to ensure their children are safe on line at all times. You should know all of your child's log in and passwords for all social media and other accounts and spot check them often. They should NEVER have their names, school, phone number or any personal information on their social media. Be cautious because many social media apps will track your child's location and others on the app can see them too. Scary... right? We as parents have to protect our children from inappropriate things that are out there at the click of a button for them to access. We want to teach them when they are young to use the internet as the wealth of good information it can be and how to use it safely.
This is a great resource for parents and has information about all things social media and safety to help your children. I hope you take the time to read through it and find it helpful and eye opening.

Important Information- UPDATED!!!!!
School Bell Hours
It is very important that students are in school bell to bell to maximize their learning.
~9:50 am Campus open, breakfast served
~10:10 am Tardy Bell
~4:20 pm Dismissal Bell
**Students must be in their classroom by 10:10am- please be sure they are here at 10:00 am so they have time to get breakfast and get to their classroom.
**Please do not sign your child out of school early unless it is an emergency. We have academic instruction until the end of the school day. Students leaving early are missing valuable instruction and time with their teacher. Without a doctors note, this will be marked as unexcused.
We ask that you make school and your child's education a priority by having them here on time and not signing them out early!
Health and Safety:
Our goal is to create an environment that provides an opportunity for students to return to the
traditional school experience, while providing effective safeguards to protect the health and safety of students and staff.
- Practice safe social distancing to the greatest extent possible.
- Post signage and provide lessons to strongly encourage frequent hand washing and hygiene
- practices.
- Ensure hand sanitizer is available throughout the campus.
- Increase cleaning protocols throughout each campus, including replacing air filters more
- frequently.
- Limit group gatherings.
- Students can wears masks to school. Face coverings are optional for students and recommended for all district staff members.
- Self Screener for symptoms is required for all staff and students daily prior to arriving on campus or on the school bus.
- Ensure any staff or students who exhibit symptoms are not at school or in the workplace.
- Students can to wear face coverings on the bus.
- Clean high touch areas between runs.
- Ensure hand sanitizer is available on each bus.
- Disinfect each bus thoroughly at the end of each day.
Dismissal is an important time to show grace and patience to other parents and school staff. We are going to ensure that we know how every child got home each day. Please be kind in the carline and at the walker area. This takes time and we appreciate your understanding. Any changes in dismissal must be communicated in writing to your child's teacher and we ask that you send an email to Sandy Amaral at samaral@pasco.k12.fl.us to let the front office know of this change as well. If you email or Bloomz the teacher during the day, they may not see it prior to dismissal because they are busy teaching. This will help ensure that your child goes home the correct way.
Stay Connected with Us!
We have many avenues of communication to stay connected with families. Keep an eye out!
