Information about Union Springs High School

A note from Mr. Dentel

The concept of "Other People Matter" is vital to our work with the Positivity Project. We have shared how our words and actions affect others. This effect can be positive by lifting a person's spirits. This week we had an assembly with musician, Jared Campbell, he referred to people being a "white line," referencing how the white line on the highway helps us when it is foggy. We challenged our students to acknowledge the white lines in their lives. We continue to encourage our students to create a school community where we celebrate everyone for who they are.

As we are ten weeks into school, I must stress the importance and power of the 2:20 - 3:00 block. This time, Monday through Thursday, is dedicated support time for our students. A message I would love help with is encouraging students to stay before they feel overwhelmed. High School is challenging, and the work is tough. Many times after school, students can work one on one with their teacher. Also, if your student fails, they should stay to get caught up. These behaviors lead to more success for students.

Finally, as we head into the Holidays, thank all of you for the support you have given me in the last year and a half. I am thankful for the wonderful staff I have the privilege to work with and the students who come to school ready to be part of the Union Springs High School Community.

Student Spotlight - National Honor Society

The students pictured were inducted to the National Honor Society. Students in 11th and 12th grade who have a GPA of 90 or above are eligible to apply to be a member. The ceremony, which concludes with swearing in the students, was attended by many family members. Keep up the hard work to our newest members.

Student Spotlight - Positivity Project Awards

This month we acknowledged students who exemplify the qualities of curiosity, open-mindedness, teamwork, and integrity. These character traits are the ones students have been working on as we move through the Positivity Project. Congratulations to all of the award winners.

Student Spotlight - Athletic Awards

Last week we had the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our fall athletes.

Jared Campbell Talks about Resiliency

Jared Campbell is an award winning singer/songwriter from upstate New York and has toured the country speaking at hundreds of schools and conferences. His main focus is allowing his music to impact the lives of his listeners by experiencing joy, finding comfort through pain, and looking past obstacles towards living a better life.

This week he came and talked/sang to our high students about Resiliency.

Classes get together to work on second languages and paint pumpkins

Learning a second language is a challenge for high school students. Our English Language Learners teacher, Mrs. Ryan; English Teacher, Mr. Bessette; and Spanish teacher, Mrs. Horbal brought students together to paint pumpkins and speak in the students second languages. The activity builds empathy in language acquisition and builds connections with our student body.

Parent Conferences

Parent Conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 21st. Mrs. Matzen has been contacting parents of students that teachers have requested for a conference. In addition, we know that some parents may also want to have a conference to get an update on their student's progress. Please reach out to Mrs. Matzen at 315-889-4110 if you want to be added to the schedule.

Parent forum

In December, I would like to invite parents the to attend a principal's forum. I have a student group, but I would love to give an opportunity to meet with families to discuss how to make our school the best it can be. If you are interested, go to the link below. I will then email out the details. Thank you.

SENIOR PARENTS!!!

We will try to give the important information that senior parents need to know.

We have some information regarding our senior trip. It will take place June 2nd and 3rd at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. This was the location voted on by the class of 2023.

  • The first installment for the senior trip to Cedar Point:
  • $50 and is due December 2, 2022.

  • Checks are preferable and should be made out to USCSD. In the memo line put class 2023 trip.

  • All payments need to be given to Mr. Palmiotto.

  • This is a nonrefundable payment.

  • This payment is to secure your place and is also used to finalize numbers for making hotel and ticket reservations.
