A Note from the Principal
I was spending some time with my granddaughter this weekend. At one point in the middle of her doing my make up (Uh oh) she said, “Mimi, did the boys have fun at the ball game?” The mind of a three year old still amazes me. She had called me on Facetime during the last football game and wanted to watch the kids play. One week later she was still thinking about that game and how the kids felt. It reminded me of all we are trying to grow about school spirit at AHS. We want the kids to think about all the events, about all the students participating and to feel as connected as the ones who are in uniform. I’m also reminded of how easy it is to get a three year old to share her thoughts and feelings and how hard it is for us to get the older kids to open up. I continually try to create situations that will spark conversation between the students and their school family along with things they will come home and discuss as well. This week is a great time to review what has happened in the fall that has made an impression on your student. I hope that if you have those conversations you will hear about academic and social events. We have had some amazing memorable moments both in and out of the classroom.
You will start seeing some mentions of the Freshmen Preview Night. The event is not limited to incoming freshmen and their parents despite them being our target audience. It is a great event to attend if you want to learn more about our curricular and extracurricular opportunities. There is something at AHS for everyone so if your student is not participating in something gather them up and come see us on December 4th to explore the opportunities.
Have a great week everyone!

AHS Drama, Fall Play: "The Radium Girls"
During World War I, hundreds of young women went to work in clock factories, painting watch dials with luminous radium paint. But after the girls — who literally glowed in the dark after their shifts — began to experience gruesome side effects, they began a race-against-time fight for justice that would forever change US labor laws.
