Kenwood Leadership Academy Magnet School
Magnet School Visits
We are inviting families to tour Kenwood Leadership Academy in the upcoming weeks to help them make decisions about if our school and theme is a good fit for them. The school visits consist of a presentation about our school and the CRCSD Lottery, student perspective and leader binder sharing, and a school tour.
We have upcoming visits on the following days:
Monday, January 23 9:30-10:30 am
Wednesday, February 8 12:30-1:30 pm
Monday, February 20 9:30-10:30 pm
We may also have parents that schedule a visit outside of this time, depending on their availability. We may stop into a few classrooms during these visits. Please know that I will let you know ahead of time if we plan on visiting your classroom specifically.

Below is our District Elementary Magnet School Brochure. Included in the brochure is some of the data David spoke about at one of our professional learning sessions. We are very proud of our student and staff attendance as well as our diversity and parent perception data. While these are not traditional academic data points, they help tell our story and showcase some of our celebrations!
21st Century Learning & Tech Updates
Our technology department is still working diligently with HP and the vendors to identify a solution with the connectivity problems with the desktop computers and the Promethean Boards. They don't have a timeline as of now. You have been very patient when issues come up- thank you for that.
Over winter break, student passwords (3rd, 4th & 5th grade) were all reset to their default password. Students may continue to use their default password (Ke) then 6 digit student number. They will not have to reset this until the 120 day password reset.
Innovative Programming Updates
This week, Dr. Trace Pickering transitioned out of his role as associate superintendent. We had a video conference call on Monday with our magnet coordinators, magnet school principals, district administrators and Doreen Marvin to talk about continued support of magnet schools. Val Dolezal will support our magnet schools and attend our magnet meetings and Doreen Marvin will provide more support for us. Magnet Coordinators will be meeting or speaking with Doreen individually once a week to help provide support for our individual buildings and themes. We believe we have a system in place to help move our work forward- please let me know if you have any questions.
Our district innovative program PLC will meet for the second time today. David and I will stay back at KLA to participate in the important vision/planning work with Doreen. One of the goals of the innovation PLC is to create a document/visual to help families and staff understand the programs that are available. It can be confusing at times as some of the options are magnet schools, or programs within schools.
