Ideal Location for touring this beautiful area around Lake Trasimeno

This charming traditional house is situated in the village of Casa Maggiore and within easy reach of Castiglione del Lago and beautiful Lago Trasimeno. Casa Maggiore is a small, very peaceful village set in beautiful countryside and providing the opportunity for many delightful and relaxing walks throughout the area.

It is ideally situated for visiting some of the most interesting and beautiful towns of Umbria and Tuscany. Cortona, Assisi, Citta delle Pieve, Spello, Perugia, Montepulciano, Passignano and Orvieto are less than an hour's drive away. The area is well served by rail and approximately an hour on the train will take you to Rome or Florence.

Castiglione, a beautiful walled, lake-side town with its quaint streets, restaurants, bars, shops and beaches is about a ten minute drive away. Castiglione also has a magnificent Rocca (ancient fortress) with spectacular views which hosts open-air musical and theatrical events.

The house is built on three floors joined by a marble staircase.

A living-kitchen on the lower floor is newly equipped with dishwasher, washer/drier, microwave, electric hob, fridge/freezer and all the necessary pots, pans, utensils and crockery. There is a dining-table with chairs and Ingle-nook fireplace.

On the top floor there is the main large bedroom with a balcony overlooking the countryside. This room faces mainly south so receives the sun most of the day. The room is fitted with a double bed, bunk beds and a wardrobe. It can therefore accommodate four persons if required.

A further room is situated on the middle floor. This is equipped with a three-quarter sofa-bed and cupboard space so can be used as an additional bedroom, but also makes a lovely lounge.

The bathroom housing both bath and shower, toilet and bidet is on a mezzanine floor between the middle and top floor thus serving, with privacy both of the bedrooms.

Getting there

From the UK (London Stsnstead) Ryanair operate inexpensive regular flights to Perugia airport from where you can collect your hire-car. We often use Hertz. If you book well in advance it is possible to hire a small car for about £10 per day. It is a very straightforward drive of about 50 minutes to Casa Maggiore. Alternatively there are other low-cost flights to Pisa, Bologna, Ancona and Rome operated by Ryanair and other airlines.
