Eagle Edition #2 - 2022-23
September 9, 2022
Welcome Back!
We've had a busy and full week at both Anderson & McGrath and we want to thank you for all of your support. Our students are thriving this year and it has been WONDERFUL to see everyone settling in. This is going to be the best year!
IMPORTANT SCHOOL UPDATES FOR THIS WEEK:
- HOMECOMING: Anderson & McGrath are looking for a truck and trailer for students to ride in during the Homecoming parade on October 7. Please reach out to either building office if you have one we could use! Anderson office: 591-5829; McGrath office: 591-5827
- Our first Anderson/McGrath PTO meeting this year will take place on Monday, 9/19/22 at 6:00 PM in the McGrath library.
- We are looking forward to seeing many of our Anderson & McGrath families!
- We will be looking at our fundraisers and activities for the year and would love to set up some teams to start planning our events with all of you.
- Please see the end of this newsletter for a doc with all scheduled PTO meetings for the year.
- Community: This week during our morning announcements Ms. Courneya and Mrs. Floyd talked about what it means to be part of a community with all of our students on our Anderson/McGrath campus.
- Every classroom came up with a sentence to share what they thought it meant to be part of a community.
- Words like kindness, helpfulness, and respect came up over and over again in these sentences. We will continue to talk about community with our students and we hope that you can share in this conversation at home, too.
- We want our community of learners to be a place where everyone belongs!
- TRANSPORTATION INFO
- If you need to change your student's method of transportation home, please make sure to notify your building office: Anderson office: 591-5829; McGrath office: 591-5827
- Teachers cannot change the way a student is getting home without verification, which needs to be communicated through the office BEFORE 3:00 PM.
- If your student arrives at school after 8:50 AM, please walk into the office and sign in your student.
- Car Pick Up - Please make sure to remain in your vehicles as you drive up to our cones at the end of the day at both Anderson & McGrath. We will get your students to you as quickly as we can!
- GRADE LEVEL/CLASSROOM INFO:
- Virtual Curriculum Night: On Wednesday, 9/14, we will be sharing curriculum videos from our teaching staff with you to give a window into what our students will be learning about this year.
- That link will be shared with you via Blackboard and you should be able to watch a video representing your student's grade level.
- On September 15, our first graders will be celebrating International Dot Day. Students are invited to make their mark by wearing polka dots and reading Peter Reynolds' book The Dot in class.
- On September 26, first graders will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day and will be making a pot pan hat, homemade applesauce, and learning about Johnny's legacy.
- Color Our Community: It has been amazing to see so many of our students and staff supporting our kindergartners in learning about colors. We would love it if you joined your school community and sported the following colors on the following days:
- Monday, September 12: Blue day
- Tuesday, September 13: Purple day
- Wednesday, September 14: Black day
- Thursday, September 15: Brown day
- Friday, September 16: Rainbow day
- MISCELLANEOUS INFO
- Grownups need to bring in any student medication that needs to be taken at school (including inhalers, epi pens, etc.) with appropriate medical documentation. The link for the student medication form is HERE and can also be found on our GBCS.ORG website under FOR PARENTS > PARENT DOCS AND FORMS.
- Please make sure to bookmark our 22-23 school year calendar.
- Both offices could use water bottle donations for students. If you're able to help by sending in bottled water, please do!
- If you've already turned in your Parent Volunteer form to our Anderson or McGrath offices, please make sure you also send a picture of your driver's license to kbohr@gbcs so that we can process these forms. Every building in the district collects these each year for our volunteers. Thank you for your help!
