Testing
March 31, 2021
Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):
The Michigan Department of Education requires all in-person and virtual students in 11th grade to take the Michigan Merit Exam (MME), which will be given at Godwin Heights High School immediately after Spring Break. The MME is one of Michigan’s statewide high-school assessments and it measures the academic content that every student needs to know to be college and career ready upon graduation. Students who have been reporting for in-person instruction will test in their classrooms with their cohorts, while virtual students will report to the gym for testing. If for some reason your student is unable to test on this day, please contact the main office at 616.252.2050 to report the absence.
The MME has three important components:
The SAT, a college-readiness assessment by CollegeBoard
The ACT WorkKeys, a career-readiness assessment by ACT
The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress ( M-STEP), an online test that measures student growth regarding Michigan curriculum in science and social studies
The College Board is the organization that coordinates the SAT/PSAT, including the subjects and dates shown below. Please note all students in grades 9th-11th who receive accommodated testing will test, on April 13th and 14th if needed. We strongly encourage you to avoid scheduling appointments for your child that would involve time out of school during the assessment administration dates. Teachers will be reaching out to students and parents of our accommodated testers to support a smooth testing experience. Any junior who attends KCTC will test at Godwin Heights High School on April 13 & 14th ane will be excused from KCTC. Current seniors will be provided transportation to and from KCTC for the week of April 12th-16th.
In addition, in-person and virtual students in grades 9th-10th grade are also required to complete the PSAT test this spring. The PSAT measures the knowledge and skills that research shows are most essential for college and career readiness and success, at the level of content and skill appropriate for 9th and 10th grade students. Students who have been reporting for in-person instruction will test in their classrooms with their cohorts, while virtual students will report to the gym for testing. If for some reason your student is unable to test on this day, please contact the main office at 616.252.2050 to report the absence.
Due to COVID-19 and our safety procedures here at Godwin Heights High School, we are making some changes for our testing days this spring to ensure safety for students and staff. Because of these measures, students only need to report to school at 8:45 AM on the day they are required to test and testing will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. On the days students are not required to test, students will be expected to join their classes from the comforts of their home via distance learning through google meets shared by teachers. Please refer to the schedule linked here to communicate with your students their required testing dates and the schedule we will follow for that day.
Godwin Heights High School is committed to providing all students the academic opportunities needed to prepare them for future endeavors and we are actively preparing for the administration of this important exam.
Sincerely,
Chad Conklin
