Titans United: Shining Through it All

Greetings Parents & Guardians:

Thank you for attending Curriculum Night this week. If your schedule did not allow you to Zoom in, please contact your child's teacher to get a copy of the recorded session.

Digital Learning Day is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. If you are in need of a Chromebook to complete Digital Learning, please complete the Chromebook Request Form via the link below. Chromebooks will be sent home with students on Septemeber 13, 2021 and should be returned to school on September 15, 2021. https://forms.office.com/r/jPCHGFhDvt

Due to the uptick of Covid cases in school-age children, we will begin limiting the number of students eating in the cafeteria at any given time at Benefield. Starting on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 students will sit in every other seat in the cafeteria and/or they will eat in the classroom. This safety measure will limit the number of students that will have to quarantine in the case of a positive Covid case at Benefield.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and school. It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of such an exemplary and student centered learning community.

Honored to serve as your principal,

Mrs. Shonda Gipson Stevens

Principal

Meet Our Counselors!

Ms. Julia Muhammad (PreK-2nd)

My name is Julia Muhammad. I was born in the great state of Florida where most of my family’s roots reside. I graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Walden University where I earned a Master’s degree in School Counseling. I have a total of over 17 years of experience in the field of education, with 5 of those years as a school counselor.

This is my second year as a school counselor with the Benefield family and I will be partnering with Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. I’m truly excited and looking forward to seeing my returning students as well as my new students who will be joining the Benefield Titan family. Please know that I’m also looking forward to connecting, supporting, and working with all our teachers, parents and community stakeholders in helping to create positive and enjoyable experiences for our students.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, meditating, yoga, nature, researching, learning new things and spending time with friends.

Ms. Tenesha Caldwell (3rd-5th)

Hi my name is Tenesha Caldwell. I grew up in North Carolina and attended NC A& T State University (Aggie Pride!). Upon graduation I moved to the Atlanta area and I have been here since. As a teacher, I observed the various barriers many students face that hinder their learning and decided to pursue my Masters and Specialist degrees in School Counseling from Georgia State University. I have 20 years of experience in elementary and middle school settings.

This is my first year as a member of the Benefield family and I am the counselor for third, fourth and fifth grades. I look forward to connecting with and supporting all Titan students, parents, and teachers.

Outside of school I enjoy baking, cooking, reading a good book, watching my favorite player (my son) play football and baseball, and spending time with family and friends.

Titan of the Week/Month

The Titan of the Week/Month program recognizes & celebrates students that exemplify the character trait for the month. This school year we will recognize the six pillars of character in the following order:
  • Aug & Sep - Trustworthy
  • Oct - Respectful
  • Nov & Dec - Kindness
  • Jan & Feb - Fairness
  • March - Responsibility
  • April & May - Citizenship

Titan of the Week pictures will be taken, and their names displayed on the bulletin board and announced on the morning announcements every Friday morning. At the end of the month, the name of one girl/boy from each grade level will be drawn/chosen as Titan of the Month. The students selected will have “Lunch with the Principal/Assistant Principal.”

Girls On The Run

Girls on the Run is so much more than running. Their tested curriculum blends physical activity with skill development that enables girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. Girls on the Run understands the important connection between physical activity and overall emotional health. Trained volunteers guide girls through research-based lessons which creatively integrate movement in a fun and motivating way. By signing your girl up for Girls on the Run, you are giving her the opportunity to connect, grow and learn how to navigate difficult situations. Register your girl by August 31, 2021.
