Academic Conversations
Here at Stapleton we are practicing academic conversations in our classrooms. We know students learn more when they have the opportunity to share their ideas with others. We are practicing what it means to be an active listener and how to respond to our classmates to better understand what they are saying. Students are showing they are listening by using eye contact, nodding and smiling. Students are responding in full sentences to classmates by asking questions about what they have heard and taking turns talking. We are hoping children will practice these skills at home with their parents.
Here are some possible conversation starters:
What was the best part of your day?
The best part of my day was …….
Tell me about your favorite animal (video game, dinosaur, book)?

Math News
SAVE THE DATE! March 14 we will be having a family Math Night here at Stapleton! More details to follow!
iReady Math Diagnostic
Wow! The students did a fantastic job on their math iReady!!!! They worked hard and it shows!
Math at Home
This week in "Math at Home" let's think about looking at the sale flyers for the grocery store. This is an opportunity to talk about money and estimating and adding and subtracting. Students can help to figure out about how much some of sale items will cost. they can find out how much money is being saved because it is on sale. If an item is 3 for $6, how much is one item? Math possibilities at the grocery store are endless! Thank you for partnering with school to help your child learn!
Character Trait of the Month
The character education theme of the month for February is “Acceptance”. We have defined acceptance as “respecting the differences of other people”. Students will be taught the importance of not only accepting others’ differences, but celebrating and respecting the differences of their friends, peers, teachers and people in the community with whom they cross paths with on a daily basis. We live in a diverse community and students will discover that we can learn from others' differences and become better members of our community. Through morning meetings, focused read-alouds, and social emotional learning blocks in their classrooms, students will learn about the importance of acceptance in their school, the greater Framngham community, and the world at large. As a school, we will celebrate and accept all members of the school family by highlighting and embracing each other's uniqueness. We welcome families to join the conversation with their children to strengthen our students' understanding of and the importance of ACCEPTANCE!
