A Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Happy Earth Day!
Our CARES focus in April is Respectful. One of the ways we can ALL be Respectful Cheetahs is by being respectful to our Earth!
Did you know that over 30% of the garbage we create in Snohomish County could have been recycled?
Reduce
Where you can, and when safe, walk more instead of using the car. This reduces the gas your parents will use!
Switch off electrical items, such as your lights, television and games console, when you are not using them – this will reduce the amount of energy you use!
Turn off the tap water when brushing your teeth – you’ll reduce the amount of clean water being wasted!
Reuse
When you are heading out to the store, always take your own bags. That way, you won’t use plastic bags from the store.
When something is broken, see if you can mend it or fix it instead of throwing it away!
And if it can’t be mended or fixed, see if you can find a new use for it!
Give unwanted items to charity!
And reuse scrap paper – remember you can always use both sides of a sheet of paper to draw on!
Recycle
By recycling, we are using materials from things you don’t need any more to make new products.
Instead of throwing away your food, you can turn it into really useful compost!
Always see if you can buy things made from recycled materials
Sort all your trash so that the glass, tin cans, plastic and paper can be recycled
Think about what other things can be recycled at your local recycling center, like batteries and ink cartridges
Use kitchen waste as compost in the garden.
We continue to smile at the school registrations for the 2022-23 school year. We look forward to welcoming more Cheetahs to Chain Lake next fall. If you have neighbors who have not yet registered their incoming Kindergarteners, or who are new to our area, please encourage them to register as soon as possible so we can determine more accurate student numbers for next school year.
With appreciation,
Ana

New Attendance Intervention Specialist for the District
Hello MSD families!! My name is Junelle Lewis and I am the new Attendance Intervention Specialist for the district. My position has the privilege of serving students at all levels, elementary, middle and high school. As the AIS, my primary role is to focus on engaging youth and families in order to discover root causes of truant behavior. My goal is to work collaboratively with students and families to develop internal motivation to graduate from school in partnership with the community and juvenile courts.
Attendance MATTERS and can easily be referred to as the foundation of student success. Building a habit of good attendance early is very important and can carry on through college and careers. It is my goal to see every student succeed, no matter what barriers we may face. Partnering with families serves as a major benefit for student success and also contributes to them having a positive, engaging educational experience.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to support you.
All the best,
Junelle Lewis

From our Chain Lake Health Room:
Just a few reminders related to our COVID protocols.
Please DO NOT send your child to school if they have any symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, even if you think they just have a cold. Without the daily attestations, we are relying on you to assess your child’s health status and appropriateness for school. Thank you for your help in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
We are now able to accept at-home test results. Please email a copy of the test results to the health room. Results will be kept in the students health file.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. The phone number in the health room is 360-804-3132 and the best email address is corriem@monroe.wednet.edu.

Digital Learning
We are working on our Coding skills again. As students continue to build skills in Coding they are also utilizing problem solving and analytical thinking as they determine errors in their programs and devise solutions. Grades 3-5 will be working on Scratch, an international coding platform developed and maintained by the nonprofit Scratch Foundation. Grades K-2 will get more age-appropriate coding practice using some of the engaging coding activities on Code.org.
Keep Calm and Code On!

A Note From the Library....
I can’t believe we are fast approaching the end of April already! This month in the library we have been focusing on poetry month and this week in particular we have been reading some great poems from the author Shel Silverstein. In other exciting news we have also discussed the fact that Book Fair officially starts this Friday the 22nd! What's cool about this book fair is that it's a BoGo book fair so you get more books for your money :) I’m excited to see how many books we sell at this fair vs. the fall book fair we had previously! Be on the lookout for flyers coming home with information about how to set up an E-Wallet, book recommendations and so much more!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Swalwell
