Lincoln Is Nominated
The Republicans nominated Abraham Lincoln as their candidate for presidential election. Most Southerners feared that him winning for the Republicans would result in a slave revolt.
ELECTIOn
Abraham Lincoln won a majority of the electoral votes with a 180 out of 303 votes. He only received 40 percent of the popular vote but it was still more than any other candidate. Douglas came in second with 30 percent. Lincoln's name did not even appear on most Southern ballots, but he won in every Northern state. Lincoln was favor in he was against slavery.
