September Newsletter : September 5, 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
The 2022-23 school year is well underway, and I am excited to report that everything is off to a fantastic start. The students impress me every day with how quickly they are learning procedures and jumping right back into the swing of school. We even had our first fire drill already, and the students were able to evacuate the building in an orderly way in under five minutes. Our dedicated teachers and staff have already set the tone for a successful year.
Back-to-School Night was early this year, and as always we had an incredible parent turnout. It shows just how much you are all invested in your child’s education. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to come to school and gain an understanding of the incredible learning that will take place this year with your children. Teachers had so much to share about the exciting year ahead at Boulder Creek, as well as how parents can support their children outside of school. In fact, there are many more opportunities for parents to support their children via the Boulder Creek Community.
One way parents can become involved here at Boulder Creek is to become active in our Parent Club. Our Boulder Creek Executive Board members work tirelessly for our school and have some really cool annual events, as well as some new ideas, planned for this school year. The BC Parent Club holds monthly meetings, and the first one is coming up on September 14th at 5:30 p.m. in the library. Feel free to join us and see what it’s all about.
Welcome aboard Boulder Creek Families. Go Bears!
Sincerely,
Tina Croes

HELP OUR BUSES STAY ON TIME
Please do not arrive early, before the dismissal time of your oldest child. This will help to keep the parking lot from backing up with cars, and the buses will be able to drive in the back driveway and around the bus loop.

Sundial Riffle Raffle (Formerly known as the Ducky Derby)
Up to 100% of the money raised returns to Boulder Creek School to fund classroom expenses and activities. This is a primary source of funding for the year.
Not just another Raffle! The Redding East Rotary sponsors this raffle drawing each year to raise funds for substance abuse prevention programs and youth development.
Students sell the tickets and each participating school receives up to 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales, making it the most successful school fundraiser ever!
Each salmon ticket costs $5.00, multiple salmon can be purchased on one ticket number.
Riffle Raffle winners will be announced Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Sundial Bridge event from 11:00 to 3:00.
2022 Riffle Raffle Prizes
1st $10,000 cash
2nd Houseboat Vacation from Jones Valley Marina; 16-sleeper houseboat on Shasta Lake
3rd Giants Baseball Game Weekend;
4th 16” Child's bicycle
5th Diamond Topaz Necklace
Our Parent Club has chosen the Pledge Sheet method of selling salmon. Students will use this pledge sheet to keep track of who they sold to, how many salmon they sold, and how much money they have collected. They will turn in the money and pledge sheet to their teacher each week on Wednesdays beginning September 7th. The following day, tickets will be disbursed to the student depending on how many salmon they sold and how much money they have turned in. Students will then give the tickets to the purchasers. Pledge sheets were sent home with students on August 26th. If you need additional pledge sheets, please ask your child's teacher. The final date to turn in Pledge Forms/Money will be Oct. 12th.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This fundraiser supports classrooms with funds for science activities, art, field trips, and so much more. It also supports funds for the Parent Club to help support fun activities here at Boulder Creek all year long.
Boulder Creek has always been one of the top-selling schools with this community fundraiser. Help us reach the top again this year! Remember, winners can be from out of the area, so students can sell to family and friends all over.

EVERY KID OUTDOORS Opportunity for our 4th graders!
We are excited to share a fantastic opportunity with you for all EESD 4th graders! Every Kid Outdoors was created so fourth graders and their families could discover our wildlife, resources, and history for free.
The 2022/2023 Every Kid Outdoors passes were already sent home with our 4th graders. These passes will give your students and their families free access to hundreds of parks, lands, and waters through August 2023. This program only provides passes for fourth graders so encourage your students to take advantage of this resource.
To validate their passes please have your students sign the pass on the back.
MUSIC
A Note from the Music Department
The Music department is sponsoring a recycling drive for your empty bottles and cans from Tuesday-Friday, Sept. 6-9.
Please separate your aluminum cans from your plastics, and drop off your recyclables in the bins provided! You’ll see them in the mornings in the drop-off lane in front of the cafeteria all next week.
Not ready this week? We will have another recycling drive the week of Thanksgiving, so save up your bottles and cans. Thank you for supporting the music students!
NO SHARING FOOD ITEMS AT SCHOOL
A "No Food Sharing" policy at school seems contradictory to everything we try to teach our children. However, this policy is necessary for the safety of all at Boulder Creek.
Cross-contact: A shared food item such as an apple, for example, may have been placed in a child's lunch by a person who touched other items such as peanut butter at home. The cross-contact with that apple could be life-threatening for another child who might have a peanut allergy.
New Allergies: In 25% of food allergy reactions that occur at school, the student had not been previously diagnosed. If a reaction does occur at school, tracing all food eaten, including its preparation may be of importance. This information is simply easier to gather when food is not shared.
Parents, please partner with us and discuss this policy with your children. We have many students who have food allergies, as well as those who may not know they have an allergy yet. In addition, some foods (spicy for example) that are tolerated well by some may not be tolerated by others.
Thank you!
K-5 Cross Country
K-2 Runners practice on their own (with parents) at home. While 3rd-5th runners will have practices Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30. All meets take place on Thursdays at which time, 3rd-5th runners will practice on Tuesdays only. The first practice is on Thursday, September 8th.
There is a Parent Meeting on Tuesday, September 6th at 2:30 in the cafeteria when parents will be given all the details about the season.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
The School Site Council (SSC) is responsible for the development of the School Plan and overall school site budget including any categorical funds. The SSC is expected to:
Help develop and approve the School Plan for Student Achievement and school site budget.
Review and analyze student data.
Solicit community input and develop a needs assessment.
Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the SPSA on an ongoing basis.
2022-2023 is a year of elections for some of our parent site council member seats. This month we will take nominations of parents who might like to participate in the school site council this school year. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else, click HERE to access the nomination form. Complete the form and return it to school by Friday, September 30th. Voting will take place the first week in October.
Our 2022-2023 School Site Council (SSC) will be determined by October 7th.
PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning of the year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140 or email our tech helpline at help@eesd.net. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
HAVE YOU COMPLETED YOUR BEGINNING OF YEAR REQUIRED FORMS?

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD IS COVID POSITIVE OR HAS SYMPTOMS?
This year is all about recommendations rather than requirements. The most important part is to stay home if you are sick. We are no longer offering testing for students at school, but we do have free tests available for parents who would like to test their students at home. Please refer to the flyer below for further details.
Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding.

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP TIMES AND PARKING LOT PROCEDURES Where/when should I drop-off and pick-up?
Grade-Level Start and End Times
We are happy to welcome our students on campus for breakfast as well as on the playground before the start of the school day this year. The earliest drop-off time is 7:30 a.m.
Regular Day - School Start/End Times:
4-8 grades begin at 8:00 a.m. - 2:10 p.m.
K-3 grades begin at 8:15 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Minimum Day - School Start Times:
4-8 grades begin at 8:00 a.m. - 1:06 p.m.
K-3 grades begin at 8:10 a.m. - 1:06 p.m.
Students will be released from class based upon the dismissal time. Students will be walked to a designated pick-up area (see below) and remain with their teacher/classmates. If they have a younger sibling(s), they should report to the designated pick-up area of their youngest sibling so parents don't have to visit both pick-up loops. Please coordinate this with your children.
To ensure the safety of all children, students must be picked up at their dismissal times. The school does not provide supervision for students after 2:20 p.m. on regular days and 1:20 p.m. on minimum days. Every Monday is a minimum day. If students are not picked up by the aforementioned times, they will be escorted to the office. Parents will then be required to go to the office to check students out. Remember this is to ensure your child’s safety, so please be prompt when picking up your child.
Assigned Parking Lots for Drop-off and Pick-up
This location is decided by the youngest child in the family. Older children in the family will need to find their youngest sibling at the pick-up location that is assigned to that sibling's grade level. For example, Kindergarten will be picked up in the front parking lot, so all older siblings of Kindergartners will report to the dismissal location to find their Kindergarten sibling's class at the front of the school and wait for their parents there together. We will be out to help older siblings find their pick-up point. This should only take a day or two to get into the routine of where to go.
Parking Lot Assignments by Grade-Level:
- TK/K (and all older siblings) - Front Lot
1 and 2 (and all older siblings) - Back Lot
3 and 4 (and all older siblings) - Front Lot
5 (and all older siblings) - Back Lot
6-8 (and all older siblings) Front Lot
Please do not arrive earlier than your oldest child's release time (see above), as we want to be able to clear the parking lot quickly for each group. If you have multiple children who are released at both times, please find a parking space rather than waiting in the pick-up lane as this will block the lane from moving as you wait for your older child. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please review the BC Flow of Traffic Map in order to determine which way to enter/exit the campus from the neighborhood depending on which parking lot you are assigned. Front lot = red arrows. Back lot = green arrows.
