Saber Speak
Dear Saber Families,
As we head into the 4th quarter, there is much to be excited about at Sinaloa! First of all, I have to congratulate Mrs. Lightfoot, our outstanding Science and Aeronautics teacher, on being named 2019 CTE Teacher of the Year! She brings incredible experience and passion to the class, empowering students with real-life, experiential learning experiences. We are beyond grateful for her innovation and talent, and all she does for our students at Sinaloa!
I would also like to highlight Mrs. Burns and our HACT club, which is presenting students a chance to get involved with the Skoolcade student-programming/gaming competition! Students are encouraged to submit games in Scratch to compete against other young programmers in the region. Last year, a Sinaloa student took first place, so this is a call to all our young coders to carry on the tradition of excellence!
On another note, summer school for incoming 7th and 8th graders will be offered at Sinaloa Middle School, run by Ms. Mahoney and Mr. Long, two of our outstanding administrators. Lots of information is available online at simivalleysummerschools.weebly.com, and Master Agreements for course enrollment are available in the main office. Priority registration ends May 1st, so don't wait to sign up! Also please be aware that summer school for incoming 9th graders will take place at Royal High School.
Have a wonderful week, Sabers!
Sincerely,
Bradley Torti
Principal, Sinaloa Middle School
Counseling Corner
Sinaloa Families,
This week at Sinaloa, Royal High School, School Counselors were on campus on both Thursday and Friday registering our 8th grade students. What an exciting time for our students as they explore and register for classes for their 9th grade year!
8th grade Promotion is fast approaching. Please check Aeries to make sure your students are on track to promote. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your students and feel free to email their teachers.
Promotion Activities
Eighth grade students will be required to meet the following criteria to be eligible for the promotion ceremony and party.

Earn no more than one (1) U in citizenship as a final grade for the 2nd semester.
Earn no administrative U’s; referrals to the office, suspensions, or truancies may result in an administrative U.

Attendance Policies
Attendance Phone Line: 805-520-6830 Press 1, or Ext. 7021 (Can call anytime day or night)
Para espanol, oprima la estrella. (Llama dia o noche)
ABSENCES - Parents have five (5) days to call-in, email, or send in a note to the attendance office to excuse an absence otherwise it becomes truant. Keep in mind that personal/vacation are verified but still considered unexcused.
TARDIES - If a student is tardy to homeroom or late to school, they need to check-in with the attendance office to get a tardy pass. Students tardy to homeroom will have a 15 minute detention after school unless a parent calls, emails, or sends in a note to excuse the tardy. Excessive tardies to classes will affect "citizenship" grade.
EARLY PICK-UPS - We encourage parents to call-in ahead of time (or send in a note or email) for early pick-ups so that we can have the student in the office ready to go. Anyone checking-out a student must be listed on the student's emergency contact list, be 18 years or older, and must show a valid ID.
