Week 37 - The Final Push to SOLs!
This week featured lots of review, as our Reading and Math SOL testing is NEXT WEEK! Please help your student prepare for their test by ensuring they get the following:
1. Plenty of sleep the night before their test
2. A good breakfast on the day of their test
3. Lots of love and support!
We have been working together all year in each of our classes toward showing off everything we have learned on these SOL tests. While a single test is not the only measure of academic success, it is a very important one that we want each and every student to start with confidence in the work they have done all year under the guidance of the awesome teachers here at MPMS.
Secondly, this week featured the final choir concerts of the school year. All performers were AMAZING! We are so proud of their efforts - and the band and choir are travelling this weekend for their final performances.
Lastly, the next two weeks include the final games of our Spring sports season. If you have not yet come out for our softball, baseball, boys track, or girls soccer teams - come see them! They have all improved SO MUCH this season, and we are very proud of their efforts and hard work.

Elective Schedule Realignment for 2019-20 School Year
In our ongoing efforts to enhance the teaching and learning opportunities at MPMS, we are excited to share a realignment in our elective schedule for the 2019-20 school year. Now, all elective classes will be 90 minutes on A and B days.
Students will only be taking 5 classes per quarter (instead of the current maximum of 7) and students will change their elective classes each quarter or semester. In addition, this allows our electives teachers more teaching time (as it removes a transition each school day) without compromising the plethora of elective offerings currently available to our students at MPMS.
In order to keep the same number of instructional minutes, different classes will be offered for different lengths of time:
Full Year Electives: Band, Choir, ESOL, Spanish I
Semester (1/2) Year Electives: PE
Quarterly Electives: All Art, Business, STEM, Family & Consumer Science, Guitar, Journalism, and Spanish 6 & 7 classes
See the two example schedules below for a possible 7th grade elective student schedule to gain an idea of how the year would work.
Students who have met with their school counselor have a worksheet that breaks down electives, and if you or your child have any questions please reach out to their school counselor or elective teachers (specifically band and choir.)
