Dallas World Aquarium and Picnic
We will travel directly to the Dallas World Aquarium where we will see many of the animals we've been learning about in our current animal science unit.
After the Aquarium, we will load the buses and travel to Reverchon Park to eat and play.
Please be sure your child is wearing a Barksdale T-shirt (or something similar if you don't have one- red or blue) and that they have a sack lunch. Please pack items that can all be thrown away at the end of lunch (no lunch boxes, plastic containers, etc....).
End of the Year ABC Countdown!
We are nearing the final days of school! Can you believe how quickly this year has passed!? We will be celebrating the last 26 days of school by having an ABC COUNTDOWN TO SUMMER!
Below is a copy of the ABC schedule in which we encourage you and your child to countdown and mark off each day in anticipation of the final day in school! Many days are themed with activities which will not involve much effort from home. However, a few activities will involve your support. On select days, students will be asked to bring in an item to celebrate. We appreciate your support in making each of these days special.
Our countdown days begin Wednesday, April 17th! Please keep our ABC schedule handy.
Not Returning to Barksdale Next Year?
In order to plan for the closing of this school year and for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, we would appreciate information from families who plan to move out of the Barksdale community.
If you have moved out of the boundary for Barksdale during the current school year or know for certain that you will be moving before the start of school, please complete the information below and return the form to the office by May 10, 2019. Also, it is the practice that our school district does not allow parents to hand carry student records. Records will be mailed after a request is received from the new school.
Student Dress Code Reminders
Students’ dress and grooming are expected to be in keeping with accepted community standards.
1. Shoes must be worn at all times.
2. Students in kindergarten–grade 2 may wear regular shorts. Students in grades 3–12 may wear shorts but must meet the following standards:
a. Must be loose-fitting; no biking shorts, cutoffs, boxer shorts or combination thereof.
b. Must be hemmed or cuffed.
c. Length must be to the fingertips or longer.
3. Dresses or skirts must be longer than fingertips.
4. Tank tops, tube tops, halter type blouses or mesh shirts will not be permitted. Sundresses will be permitted if modestly cut. Shirts should overlap the waistband of skirts, shorts, or pants.

11. All students are expected to meet community standards and school policies with regard to health, cleanliness and appearance. All safety rules must be obeyed. [See FNCA(LOCAL)]
0.Standardized dress or other unique situations may be dealt with by the individual campuses as long as it does not violate policy. For example, if a school considers standardized dress, it must adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Must be approved by the school improvement committee.
2. Must be shared and discussed with the campus PTA board.
3. Establish a firm decision by January to implement for the next school year.
4. Effectively communicate decision to all parents.
5. Participation is voluntary for students and staff.
6. The standardized dress option is limited to elementary campuses only.
7. Special consideration may be given to middle schools to adopt standardized dress if the majority of elementary feeder schools are practicing standardized dress.

What Are We Learning?
Math
Language Arts/ Social Studies
In language arts we are continuing to learn about adjectives and how to use them to describe color and numbers. In reading we are continuing to practice making inferences and retelling a story. As you read with your child each night, ask them to retell the story. Who are the characters? What is the setting? What happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. Can they identify the problem and the solution. An easy way to do this is:
Somebody
Wanted
But
So.
During writer's workshop, we are practicing writing a friendly letter.
In social studies we have been comparing and contrasting recreation from the past to the present. We are learning about Alexander Graham Bell and Benjamin Franklin and the impact they had on the development of technology.
