A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
First, I want to let you know of a walk-in vaccination clinic tomorrow from 9:00am-1:00pm that is being held at NEOMED in Rootstown. These are FREE for ages 5 and UP. You can receive an initial, second or booster dose. Bring your Vaccine Card if you already have one! Students, parents, grandparents...anyone can attend!
We'd like to thank our wonderful Santa Shop elves who all helped to make this week's Santa Shop experience a terrific one! Under the direction of head elf, Erin Roberts, students had a chance to buy gifts for their families. Thanks to a special donation, the PTA was able to give each student who purchased any item a set of gift wrap and bows! Thank you to everyone who helped to make this a success!
As the holidays are quickly upon us, I want to remind you of the annual service project that we like to do at Suffield. We will once again be helping Safer Futures. This helps families of domestic violence. There is information about the items needed listed below. Please do not wrap anything, just send in the items and have your child place them under our tree in the front hallway. We greatly appreciate your help!
Beginning on Monday, we have some fun "dress up" days planned for students and staff as we wrap up the holidays! Please do not go out and purchase anything new, just wear some holiday colors if you don't have anything that fits the day's description!
Dec. 13-Christmas/Holiday Attire Day
Dec. 14-Ugly Sweater Day
Dec. 15-Santa Attire (hat, shirt, etc)
Dec. 16-Red and/or Green Day
Dec. 17-Polar Express Day-Wear PJs
Dec. 20-Winter Hat Day
Dec. 21-Elf Yourself Day-Dress as an elf or wear your holiday attire
We know everyone is looking forward to a relaxing and enjoyable break at home! To help everyone be able to enjoy this time, please DO NOT send your child to school if he/she is sick. If you or someone in your household is waiting on the results from a COVID test due to illness, please do not send your child to school. Anytime that they are staying home due to this, please notify the office.
Enjoy the weekend!

Who wouldn't buy lemonade in the middle of winter for these kids?
Marianna Mansdorf, age 6, of Brimfield wanted to help out kids less fortunate than her for the holidays. She thought about setting up a lemonade stand, but her mom, Athina Mansdorf, said a cookie and cocoa stand might do better this time of year.
On Nov. 27 Marianna and nine of her friends spent a chilly afternoon in Mogadore's Peppertree Estates neighborhood. The 10 children, aged 2-9, collected about 40 gifts and $50, which they used to buy even more toys, Athina Mansdorf said.
- The kids will hand over the toys to officials from Brimfield's police and fire departments at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Brimfield Community Cupboard.
- Next year's bigger and better fundraiser is already being planned, with one stipulation: it will not, as it inadvertently was this year, be held during the Ohio State-Michigan game!
- Pictured above are Marianna Mansdorf; Emmie, Eli, and Easton Beegle; Colton and Clayton Miller; Penelope, Lincoln, Zach and Evelyn Klingbeil.

Outdoor Recess
Temperatures are starting to drop and we would like to pass along some details about recess, so you can plan accordingly. We will go out to recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. If you are in need of a new coat for your child, we do have some that were donated and would be happy to help your child with a new winter coat. Please call or write a note to Mrs. Bookman if we can help! We would like to remind parents that there are certain areas on the playground where snow boots are required and other areas where snow pants and boots are required during the winter months. If they do not wear the proper attire for these areas, they will have to stay on the blacktop area. Thank you in advance for your help.

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
The Power of Yet and Growth Mindset
“I can’t do this math homework, it's too hard” or “I’m never going to be able to understand this”. How many of us have heard this from our students and have even said it before? I know I have! We all have to deal with setbacks, mistakes and challenges. It is important for students to know that these things are a part of life and that we can get through them with a little bit of resiliency and a growth mindset! Growth mindset is when you believe in yourself and know that your abilities grow over time with practice. It also means that you understand when you make mistakes it’s okay, we learn from our mistakes and can grow from them. Having a growth mindset is important for students because it helps them be able to look at a problem or situation differently and figure out how to approach it from a different perspective. The power of YET is a crucial part of a growth mindset, understanding that you may not get it yet, but you are going to get back up and try again. If your student is struggling with a concept or a skill, talk to them about it. If they can learn to have a growth mindset and add a "I just can't get this yet" to the thing they are struggling with they can develop a growth mindset. Share with your students something you struggled with at first but kept on trying and then you got it!

Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.

We continue to use a block schedule where specials will rotate every four days. This means there is no specific day for music, art, Computer Lab, or P.E. Each class will have an assigned time and will participate in these specials in a rotating sequence. One huge benefit will be that no special will regularly be missed because of school holidays. Your child’s teacher will let you know your child’s exact schedule. Be sure to check the breakfast menu to see what “day” we are on!
