Hawk Flock Family News

9/8/22

We are off to one of the greatest starts to the school year EVER! Thank you for doing your part by following our routines and procedures, and even more so for sending us such incredible students! Our students have done a wonderful job getting back into the rhythm of school. We had our first real life assembly since the pandemic began and you would never have known given the exceptional job our students did. We are looking forward to having more assemblies throughout the year to honor the great work of our students along with our Veterans Day and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. programs.

To help continue our great start, I have included some information and reminders below. One of those reminders is that we have shifted our start and end times by 10 minutes compared to last year. Students may now enter the building at 8:55 with classes actually starting at 9:10 Our day ends at 3:20. We made this shift in coordination with Discovery so that families could come to Hedden first, both in the morning and afternoon, before going to Discovery to drop off or pick up students there.

Don't forget that every Monday we will be starting one hour later. This means buses will be one hour later and our doors will open at 9:55 instead of 8:55. Please continue to read on and click the links below for more information. If you have questions about this, or anything else in this newsletter, please feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mr. Sims

Hedden Elementary Principal

Our process for drop off and pick will continue to be the same as last year, though we have shifted our start and end times 10 minutes earlier to better help with families who have students at Discovery primary.

Morning Drop Off, 8:55 to 9:10

1. Pull to the most forward area in the fire lane along the sidewalk

2. Before exiting the vehicle, students should have bags ready

3. 3rd grade students will use the Main Office Entry

5. 4th & 5th grade students will use the Gymnasium Entry

6. Parents and family should stay in their vehicle

7. Please be considerate of others dropping off by keeping our line moving

Afternoon Pick Up, 3:20 to 3:30

1. Post your placard/hanger (get one from the office) on your rearview mirror to help match students to vehicles.

2. Pull to the most forward area in the fire lane along the sidewalk

3. Wait in the vehicle while your student(s) is called from the gym

4. Students should be able to enter the vehicle from the right side

5. Parents & families need to remain in their vehicle

6. NOTE: Students will be called as vehicles pull up, and will not be able to cross the parking lot.

School Zones and Traffic Cameras

While we are all super excited to have kids returning to school, we need to make sure we are not in too big of a rush to get them here. Our community is unique in many ways, including the fact that we border two counties and multiple police jurisdictions. While I don't know just when each camera in each jurisdiction will be activated, I do know that Edgewood plans to turn on the ones by Hedden beginning next week.

Please, for the safety of our students and to keep your bank account healthy, watch your speed in school zones. Even if the light is not blinking, assume the camera is working. This is just a friendly heads up as Hedden and Fife School District DO NOT operate the cameras.
