Friday Water Balloon Fight (Donations Needed!)

Friday, August 5, the Directors and Boosters are hosting a water balloon fight at the end of Summer Band practice!

Can you help us out by donating some easy fill water balloons packages? We will need them by Thursday, and you are welcome to come watch on Friday at 7:40pm! You can buy these packages at HEB, Wal-Mart, Target, or Amazon (see image for example, comes in various sizes).

Also, if you have any buckets or baskets we can borrow to hold the water balloons, that would be very helpful. Please label them with your students name before you send them in and we will send them home with you (or your child) on Friday.

* Prefer to Venmo the Band Boosters to help out with these donations instead of shopping and sending items in? That works too! You can donate at @JohnsonBandBoosters - just indicate "water balloons" in the Venmo note!

Saturday Jaguar Jamboree Water Bottle Sales (Donations Needed!)

Saturday, August 6, is the Johnson Jamboree (Band and Guard perform at 10am pep rally! See flyer below) and the Boosters have been given the opportunity to sell water bottles to guests.

This is a great opportunity to make some money for the band program! Our profit margin will be even higher if we get water bottles donated! If you can donate a case (or more!) of 16 ounce water bottles, we would appreciate it!

Have you joined your section's GroupMe group yet? If not, email Carmen Sifuentes at vp@johnsonbands.com and she will get you connected to the right person.

What is GroupMe?

GroupMe is a two-way communication app (can also be accessed on the GroupMe website on a computer). Each section has a Parent Section Lead. These PSL's each host their section's GroupMe. Your Section GroupMe is a great place to ask questions to other parents. If your PSL does not know the answer, they will check with a Board Member and get the information you need, or point you in the right direction. The Band Boosters also share important information over GroupMe that might not be emailed or shared on FB (like reminders).

Big picture

From the director

What a great start to this 2022 - 23 year!! It was awesome to see all of our returning Veteran members as well as the new faces of our Rookie members! The best part was the attitude and motivation that came from all our members! We need to keep this excitement building! This week we start learning DRILL!! If you are a student and haven’t already download the UDB Pro app, please make sure you have it on you device and establish your account. We will begin using it this week and you should be familiar with how to navigate around the app. Also, remember that this week we start our long days and that the schedule varies from last weeks. Remember to EAT BREAKFAST and apply and bring SUNSCREEN (to reapply) We also highly recommend HATS and SUNGLASSES!

Saturday was the Jaguar Band Uniform fittings and Photos. We will schedule a make up day for those who missed this date. However, this makeup date may not happen in time for the students’ picture to be in the fall football program. Once we can get the photographer to return to JHS with their green screen and equipment, we will push that information out to those still needing a picture.

This coming Saturday is the annual Jag Jamboree! It will be held at Johnson High School. There will be a detailed schedule and additional information distributed this week.

Can you say FUNDRAISER!! We officially launched or GroupFund Fundraiser on Friday afternoon. We can not stress enough how important it is that we share the links on how to donate to everyone we can and on every platform! This is a huge undertaking but is absolutely achievable if we work together! Share, Raise, Share, Raise, Share, Raise!

Let’s have another great week, and as always, “It’s A Greet Day To Be A Jaguar”!

The Beat--A Weekly Update for Percussion-Specific Information

Wow! What an amazing week we had! The level of preparation combined with a willingness to work hard has set us up for another great season. I know the students have had a blast this week. Monday we started our annual Percussion Olympics. There are 5 teams of percussionists, each led by one of our awesome senior members. Each day is a different “game/challenge” and teams are awarded points based on placement per event. Finding time to do team building/non band social activities is a must for our percussion family. I find it’s one of the most important things we do!

It is starting to shape up to be a very special year! I can’t wait for everyone to see how hard these students are working. This coming week we will start learning drill and learning more show music. Can’t wait to see the progress we make this week!

Don’t forget the following:

- Eat breakfast before arriving.

- ALL MUSIC - Exercises, stand tunes, show music, cadences, etc.

- Pencil

- A water jug that is filled prior to arriving. You MUST stay hydrated throughout the day.

- Sunglasses

- Hat

- Sunscreen

- Athletic shoes

- Comfortable loose fitting clothes. Preferably lighter colors.

COMMUNICATION

Most communication for our band program goes out through Charms and Remind. Any Percussion specific info will be sent out via our Percussion Remind. I encourage all parents to sign up. This will hopefully keep you informed of upcoming percussion events, news, info, etc.

To sign up, simply text @jagsperc22 to the number 81010.

Quotes for a Cause

George Torres Farmers Insurance has partnered with to provide a unique opportunity to

raise money to support the JHS Band by requesting your free, no-obligation insurance quote! The goal is to raise money for the band and to give families peace of mind that they are paying a reasonable amount when it comes to insurance. His agency specializes in reducing student driver cost on family auto insurance. His agency will donate $10 to the JHS Band for each family that completes the attached quick survey. Your information will solely be utilized for a one-time, no-obligation quote and will be deleted once completed. Staying Informed

Staying Informed! The Jaguar Band strives to keep everyone informed about our events and increase the opportunity to answer questions and create conversations with our community. This year, you will be able to find out information not only in our Newsletter and on our Band Calendar, but we will also be sharing them on our Johnson Band website events page and as events on our Facebook page. Our events on Facebook will be used as a primary source for updates and reminders. Don't forget to use your section GroupMe's as a quick and effective way to get your questions answered!

Service Hours

The JHS Band Boosters have created a form for band students to track their band volunteer service hours. (Click the previous sentence to link to the form.) This form is similar to what is used by other organizations such as the NHS and puts control of volunteer service hours tracking in the students hands. Students should print and use this to log for all band related volunteer service hours and ensure completion of all fields including supervisor signature. Parents signatures are not accepted. Follow all details on the form to turn in the logs in the spring to be considered for Band Student Service Awards at the Band Banquet or for logging volunteer service for Letterman Jacket points. Any questions, contact banquet@johnsonbands.com or secretary@johnsonbands.com. This form should be used for all hours since the Band Banquet last spring. Multiple forms may be submitted to track all of your volunteer service.
