REMINDER REGARDING COVID-19 SCPS MITIGATION PROTOCOLS
Dear SCPS Families,
As a reminder, at the January 18, 2022 school board meeting, the school board voted to rescind the current mask requirement for students and visitors effective January 24, 2022, to align mask practices with the Governor’s Executive Order #2. Beginning Monday, parents may either choose for their children to wear a mask or not at school. It is important to note that based on guidance provided by the School Board’s legal counsel, this does not apply to school buses as the federal requirement regarding wearing face masks on all forms of public transportation, which includes school buses.
We continue to follow other mitigation strategies that include:
All employees are required to wear face masks indoors.
All employees, students, and visitors should complete a daily self-health assessment before entering any school building.
All employees, students, and visitors must stay home when they are sick.
Frequent hand washing and/or use of hand sanitizer and cough and sneeze etiquette is encouraged.
Current strategies such as spacing when possible of students/staff, etc. will continue.
High-touch surfaces are disinfected.
Clinics are supplied with air purifiers.
Touchless water fountains will be installed at all schools.
Students and staff will have access to 3-ply masks, which meet the current CDC recommendations.
To supplement the polar ionization filtering system installed at all schools, HEPA filters were purchased for areas occupied with larger amounts of students.
Priority contact tracing and notification of COVID-19 cases for students and staff.
Maintain a SCPS COVID-19 Dashboard.
We anticipate there will be more guidance or clarifications of current guidance in the near future from the Virginia Department of Education and Virginia Health Department. Our Division Administration and our Director of Health Services will continue to review all new guidance as it is issued. Please note, the SCPS ReEngage Operational Procedures and Instructional Support & Strategies Plan will be updated on January 24, 2022.
Thank you for your support as we continue to provide a safe, positive environment for all students to learn.
