Sport - Week 10 Term 1
Tauranga Primary School
Tauranga Primary School appreciates the support of the Lion Foundation, who provide funding for our Sport Co-ordinator role.
Jo's Sport Talk
This term has certainly had it's challenges with regard to the summer sports season. Consequently, I would like to thank all of the parents for the effort they have generously put in to make sure that our budding sport stars could participate and enjoy the summer modules. It was pleasing to see that amongst the challenges, our TPS athletes showed us that they are adaptable and kind. All the players rallied together each week to ensure that all of our TPS teams could field a team and stay in the competition.
Our TPS Crusaders RIP Rugby Team had an exceptional season, completing the competition undefeated. Ka rawe! This makes me excited about the upcoming inter-school tournament in Term 2.
Also impressive, Henry, Samuel and Oliver represented TPS in the BOP Primary Schools Golf Tournament last Friday. This is the first time we have entered the competition. The boys played in the teams event and had a fantastic day out on the golf course. Check out some photos below.
A friendly reminder that any PE tops or sports equipment borrowed from the school, must be returned to the school office by the end of the term.
Term 2 & 3 Winter Sports Teams
Registrations for our winter sports teams, who play over Terms 2 and 3, have now closed, however, there are spaces available in the following teams:
- Year 1 & 2 Little League Basketball (1 - 2 players)
- Year 3 & 4 Netball (2 players)
- Year 5 & 6 Netball (2 players)
Here is a brief description of these sports:
NETBALL
Games are played at the Tauranga Netball Centre on Saturdays starting on the 18th June. Year 1- 4s will participate in nine sessions and the year 5 & 6s will play through to Saturday 24th September. The cost ranges from $46-$60 per player.
BASKETBALL
Games are played at either the Trust Power Arena or Memorial Hall. The Year 1 & 2s play on Monday, Year 3 & 4s Tuesday and Year 5 & 6s Friday. The cost ranges from $75-$126 per player.
If you wish to register your child for one of these spaces, you will need to email me first to secure their place and then we can organise payment.
At this stage, primary school sport remains classified under the ‘Red Light’ system. Vaccine passes are no longer required to be shown, however, other rules including masks and limited numbers, may be applied at various sporting venues. All sports leagues are subject to change with regard to the ‘Lights’ system, and we will do our best to keep you updated.
