September 24th, 2019 #Work Hard, Poupard!
Dear Poupard Families,
Dear Poupard Families,
I can't believe that we are already in our fourth week of school! Last week, our students and staff through our positive behavior expectations for different parts of the building. Students were learning how to safe, respectful leaders in areas such as the playground, hallway, bathrooms and much more. Our kids have been doing an excellent job of following these behavior expectations throughout our building to start the year.
Evacuation Drill
This Thursday, our students and staff will practice safely evacuating our building to our “safe spot” which is the Harper Woods Library.
This is only a drill in case of an emergency requiring us to evacuate in the future. Please do not come to school or call the office during the drill so our staff and public safety officers can remain focused on the drill and our students' safety. Please plan ahead as students cannot be released for appointments during the drill.
The district will notify you when the drill is complete and students are back in class. Thank you for partnering with us to provide a safe and secure learning environment.
I look forward to continue meeting new families in the coming weeks! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 313-432-4804 or alih@gpschools.org.
NWEA Testing
Students in grades K-3 have begun their Fall NWEA testing with their homerooms. NWEA testing provides the school baseline information about what information students know in the areas for Math and Reading. We will be using this information as we prepare for differentiating for students at the beginning of the year. Please help your child be ready for test with a good night of sleep and breakfast in the morning.
Picture Day
Poupard's Picture Day is on Wednesday, October 2nd. You will be receiving an email from Lifetouch with several different packages for you to select from. Interested families may also purchase a 2019-20 yearbook from the same link. We can't wait to see everyone's outstanding smiles and outfits on Picture Day next week.
Conferences
Parent Teacher conferences are right around the corner. Fall parent teacher conferences are on October 9th and 10th. You will be receiving a Signup Genius from your learners teacher later this week to select a time slot that works best for your schedule. We look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks!
Daily Reading at Home
Please continue reading with your child for 20 minutes at night. You will be surprised how much reading with your child on a daily basis boosts their academic achievement, social and emotional awareness, confidence and conversation skills. This is something we are asking every family to make a priority in their household. Here is a great online resource if your child would like to have books read to them by other people but it doesn’t even come close to the impact of reading with their first teacher-YOU!
Thanks for partnering with Poupard in your child's learning!
