End of the Year E-Learning Update

Instruction will continue to occur for students through May 29th. During the week of June 1st, Remote Learning will look a little different. Being that it is the last week of school, students will still receive daily activities/resources to support learning and be provided fun end of the year activities but no new instruction will be provided. The last day of school remains June 4.

During the last week of school, Literacy and Math teachers will be doing remote reading and math check-ins so that the district can get a pulse on learning. In Literacy, these will occur as individual check-ins. Each student will receive an individual reading check-in with the teacher to close the year. This will replace the literacy assignments/instruction for the week. In addition, math teachers will be doing math check-ins through exit tickets during the week. These exit tickets will be provided through teacher’s google classrooms and will be the assignments for the week. Please have your child complete the reading and math check-ins independently as much as possible. These are not assessments and will not be graded but rather just check-ins to gather information on student progress. We asked that students try their best because the results will assist us in beginning to draft plans for how to move forward instructionally this fall.

The recommendations on grading during this period of unprecedented crisis comes directly from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). ISBE gave direction to districts to assign pass/incomplete options. For District 41, this means that students will receive a pass (P) if they have engaged in Remote Learning during the timeframe of April 6th - May 29th. If students did not engage after all attempts have been made then the student will receive a mark of Insufficient Evidence (I) and be provided additional support come fall.

Please note: Spanish Camp is canceled this summer. Camp Invention will be held virtually. Also, look for virtual summer programming from the Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center.

8th Graders to Keep Chromebooks

As part of a multi-year technology plan approved by the Board of Education, students who are currently 8th graders do not need to return their Chromebooks to District 41. The Chromebooks are now the property of the students.

On June 4, the District will send instructions on how to remove Chromebooks from the District 41 network, so that graduating 8th graders can sign into the Chromebooks with regular gmail accounts. At 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020, District 41 will deactivate the Google accounts assigned to graduating 8th graders. Starting June 22, these students will no longer have access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, or any other Google applications using their d41 account logins.

Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center to Provide Virtual Summer Programs

During these past two months of remote learning, GECRC has assisted schools with communications to D41 families by going out into the neighborhoods to see students as well as connecting local community organizations and businesses that want to help students with academic and food resources. Although the after school program can’t exist at a physical location, GECRC is still helping students to strengthen their academic and social skills through virtual support such as using Google Classroom, tutoring conferences, and social meet ups.

GECRC will continue the remote support into the summer months. The summer school program will look a little different this year, but they will provide the same connection, support and care that is the standard of the program. If you are interested in helping GECRC bridge e-learning to fall academic readiness for students in District 41, go to www.gecrc.com/donate.
